Driving-Induced Symmetry Breaking in the Spin-Boson System

open access: yes, 1999
A symmetric dissipative two-state system is asymptotically completely delocalized independent of the initial state. We show that driving-induced localization at long times can take place when both the bias and tunneling coupling energy are harmonically ...

Geometric phases and coherent states for commensurate bichromatic polarization and astigmatic cavities

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 14, Issue 24, Page 4285-4299, December 2025.
Abstract Both the polarization state of coherent bichromatic fields produced by harmonic generation and a class of anisotropic paraxial optical cavities are examples of commensurate two‐dimensional harmonic oscillators. The geometric phase for these systems is studied here, both in the classical/ray and quantum/wave regimes. The quantum geometric phase

Entanglement and Thouless times from coincidence measurements across disordered media

open access: yes, 2011
We show that the entanglement of an initially frequency-entangled photon pair propagating through a disordered scattering medium can be read off in transmission from the coincidence counting rate.

Cloaking and Antennas: From Theoretical Paradigms to Next‐Generation Intelligent Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 33, November 25, 2025.
The inception of electromagnetic cloaking sparked an immediate question: Can antennas be made invisible? Two decades later, this review charts the intertwined progress of major cloaking strategies (from transformation optics to scattering cancellation), metasurface technology, and their application to antennas, revealing how AI‐enabled devices are ...

Quantum Brownian motion in ratchet potentials

open access: yes, 2002
We investigate the dynamics of quantum particles in a ratchet potential subject to an ac force field. We develop a perturbative approach for weak ratchet potentials and force fields.

Compact Spectral Imaging: A Review of Miniaturized and Integrated Systems

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 19, Issue 21, November 6, 2025.
This review explores the rapid shift toward compact spectral imaging systems by examining four key design paradigms: Do‐It‐Yourself (DIY) platforms, freeform optics, filter‐on‐chip integration, and multifunctional metasurfaces. The discussion highlights critical applications in medicine, agriculture, and environmental monitoring, providing comparative ...

Anomalous Dynamics of Superparamagnetic Colloidal Microrobots with Tailored Statistics

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 47, November 27, 2025.
Superparamagnetic microrobots are demonstrated to navigate with advanced stochastic motion strategies, producing the entire spectrum of anomalous diffusion, from subdiffusion to superdiffusion, over at least two decades in space and time. Abstract Living organisms have developed advanced motion strategies for efficient space exploration, serving as ...

Chip games and paintability

open access: yes, 2015
We prove that the difference between the paint number and the choice number of a complete bipartite graph $K_{N,N}$ is $\Theta(\log \log N )$. That answers the question of Zhu (2009) whether this difference, for all graphs, can be bounded by a common ...
