A sparse kernel density estimation algorithm using forward constrained regression

open access: yes, 2007
Using the classical Parzen window (PW) estimate as the target function, the sparse kernel density estimator is constructed in a forward constrained regression manner. The leave-one-out (LOO) test score is used for kernel selection.

Application of Kernel Density Estimation (KDE) for identifying spatial pattern of road density and its impact on landscape fragmentation in Visakhapatnam City, Andhra Pradesh, India.

open access: yes
Increasing density of population is enforcing tremendous pressure on urban sectors. This work has been emphasis on road network and road density study urban area of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Increase of urban density along with road network is effective important factors which as directly linked to the ecological disruption under roads build-up ...

Optimizing NiMo Electrocatalyst Coatings for Hydrogen Evolution in Alkaline Electrolysis With The Machine Learning‐Guided Autonomous Platform CatBot

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a closed‐loop optimization workflow integrating CatBot, an automated synthesis and testing system, to discover NiMo hydrogen‐evolution catalysts. CatBot synthesised and evaluated 228 unique samples, identifying the best performing catalysts for transfer to nickel‐foam electrodes. The best candidate is highly active, reaching 1 Acm−2${

Grayscale Photomasks Enable Noncontact Optical Patterning of Hydroxypropyl Cellulose Gels for Dynamic Art

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mask‐encoded UV exposure translates digital color information into pixel‐resolved structural‐color patterns in hydroxypropyl cellulose gels. Gaussian‐process‐guided calibration links UV processing conditions, wavelength, and mask opacity, enabling parallel fabrication of multicolor images in a single 10 s exposure.

XTRUDE: A Process‐Informed Framework for High‐Fidelity Analysis of Hydrogel Extrusion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Extrusion performance emerges from the interplay between material properties and processing conditions. XTRUDE (eXTrusion Rheology for Understanding and Defining Extrudability) recreates the extrusion environment with in situ pressure and temperature sensing, enabling characteristic pressure signatures to quantify extrusion‐specific phenomena and ...

Assessing wind energy exploitation potential in several regions of Viet Nam using Kernel density estimation model

open access: yesCTU Journal of Innovation and Sustainable Development
This article analyzes and assesses the potential for wind energy exploitation in six regions of Vietnam. The wind speed data are used to construct wind speed probability distributions (WSPDs) based on kernel density estimation (KDE).

Intracrystalline Void‐Mediated Toughening of Brittle Crystals in Quail Eggshells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In quail eggshells, the high density and disordered arrangement of intracrystalline voids inhibit lattice cleavage, suppress long‐range crack propagation, and promote deformation twinning and quasi‐plasticity, serving as an essential toughening motif. We show that these voids remain within a narrow subcritical size range and therefore predominantly do ...

Nonparametric Density Estimation for Positive Time Series [PDF]

open access: yes
The Gaussian kernel density estimator is known to have substantial problems for bounded random variables with high density at the boundaries. For i.i.d. data several solutions have been put forward to solve this boundary problem. In this paper we propose

Conditional density estimation with class probability estimators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Many regression schemes deliver a point estimate only, but often it is useful or even essential to quantify the uncertainty inherent in a prediction. If a conditional density estimate is available, then prediction intervals can be derived from it.
