Calculation for High Pressure Behaviour of Potential Solar Cell Materials Cu2FeSnS4 and Cu2MnSnS4

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
Exploring alternatives to the Cu2ZnSnS4 kesterite solar cell absorber, we have calculated first principle enthalpies of different plausible structural models (kesterite, stannite, P4¯ and GeSb type) for Cu2FeSnS4 and Cu2MnSnS4 to identify low and high ...

Strain Effects on the Electronic and Optical Properties of Kesterite Cu2ZnGeX4 (X = S, Se): First-Principles Study

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
Following the chronological stages of calculations imposed by the WIEN2K code, we have performed a series of density functional theory calculations, from which we were able to study the effect of strain on the kesterite structures for two quaternary ...

New synthesis route to kesterite Cu2ZnSnS4 semiconductor nanocrystalline powders utilizing copper alloys and a high energy ball milling-assisted process

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2020
Presented is a new mechanochemically assisted synthesis route to kesterite Cu2ZnSnS4 semiconductor for perspective photovoltaic applications. Initially, the combined copper Cu, zinc Zn, and tin Sn powders in atomic ratio 2:1:1 were subjected to high ...

Topological Anderson Insulator in Cation-Disordered Cu2ZnSnS4

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
We present the first candidate for the realization of a disorder-induced Topological Anderson Insulator in a real material system. High-energy reactive mechanical alloying produces a polymorph of Cu2ZnSnS4 with high cation disorder.

Copper-Content Dependent Structural and Electrical Properties of CZTS Films Formed by “Green” Colloidal Nanocrystals

open access: yesElectronic Materials, 2022
Thin films of colloidal CZTS nanocrystals (NCs) synthesized using a “green” approach in water with a variation of the copper-to-tin ratio are investigated by Raman scattering, mid-infrared (molecular vibrations) and near-infrared (free carrier ...

Doping and alloying of kesterites

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Energy, 2019
Abstract Attempts to improve the efficiency of kesterite solar cells by changing the intrinsic stoichiometry have not helped to boost the device efficiency beyond the current record of 12.6%. In this light, the addition of extrinsic elements to the Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 matrix in various quantities has emerged as a popular topic aiming to ...

Rapid Thermal Processing of Kesterite thin films

open access: yesCoatings, 2023
In this contribution we present work on rapid thermal annealing of as-electrodeposited thin films of Cu2ZnSnS4. The treatment was carried out in cold wall tubular reactor in dynamic conditions with variations of temperature, speed and time of the specific elements of the process.

Kesterites—a challenging material for solar cells

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, 2012
ABSTRACTKesterite materials (Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4) are made from non‐toxic, earth‐abundant and low‐cost raw materials. We summarise here the structural and electronic material data relevant for the solar cells. The equilibrium structure of both Cu2ZnSnS4 and Cu2ZnSnSe4 is the kesterite structure.
