Thermal comfort properties of Kevlar and Kevlar/wool fabrics

Textile Research Journal, 2014
Recent research on ballistic vests has focused on comfort performance by enhancing thermal comfort and moisture management. Kevlar/wool fabric has been developed as a potential material for ballistic vests. This study investigates the thermal comfort properties of woven Kevlar/wool and woven Kevlar ballistic fabrics.

Creep of Kevlar 49 fibre and a Kevlar 49-cement composite

Journal of Materials Science, 1983
The creep strain responses of Kevlar 49 fibres and a Kevlar 49 — cement mortar composite board to sustained stresses have been studied over an extended period in excess of four years at ambient temperature. Single filaments of Kevlar 49, 900 mm in length, were stressed in tension in the range 830 to 1830 MPa.

Metallization of Kevlar Fibers with Gold

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2011
Electrochemical gold plating processes were examined for the metallization of Kevlar yarn. Conventional Sn(2+)/Pd(2+) surface activation coupled with electroless Ni deposition rendered the fibers conductive enough to serve as cathodes for electrochemical plating.

Detonation Nanodiamonds for Doping Kevlar

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2010
This paper reports on the first attempt to enclose diamond nanoparticles--produced by detonation--into a Kevlar matrix. A nanocomposite material (40 wt% diamond) was prepared by precipitation from an acidic solution of Kevlar containing dispersed nanodiamonds. In this material, the diamond nanoparticles (Ø = 4 nm) are entirely wrapped in a Kevlar layer

On the morphology of aromatic polyamide fibers (Kevlar, Kevlar-49, and PRD-49)

Journal of Macromolecular Science, Part B, 1983
Abstract Three types of aromatic polyamide fibers (Kevlar, Kevlar-49, and PRD-49) were studied by transmission electron microscopy, secondary electron imaging, and electron diffraction techniques. Ultramicrotomy, ion-thinning, and brittle fracture techniques were used to prepare specimens which revealed both longitudinal and transverse fiber structures.

Kevlar for Litigation

PsycCRITIQUES, 2011
Fear of litigation is like a horror film. After a disturbed graduate student threatened to burn down the home of a faculty member in my department, we called a mentor at the student’s prior university and asked why no related information was passed on to us. She said the student threatened to sue them if they said anything negative to anyone.
