Gut alterations in a chronic kidney disease rat model with diet‐induced vascular calcification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients often suffer from intestinal and/or mineral and bone disorders. Using a rat model, we showed that uremic vascular calcification is associated with gut barrier alterations (decreased gut mucus production and Nlrp6 gene expression, increased gut inflammation), and plasma retention of gut‐origin uremic toxins (indoxyl

18F-FDOPA PET/CT accurately identifies MEN1-associated pheochromocytoma

open access: yesEndocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism Case Reports, 2020
Pheochromocytoma (PHEO) in multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is extremely rare. The incidence is reported as less than 2%. We report a case of a 76-year-old male with familial MEN1 who was found to have unilateral PHEO.

Modeling the Effects of Multiple Myeloma on Kidney Function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Multiple myeloma (MM), a plasma cell cancer, is associated with many health challenges, including damage to the kidney by tubulointerstitial fibrosis. We develop a mathematical model which captures the qualitative behavior of the cell and protein populations involved.

GDP‐fucose transporter SLC35C1: a potential regulatory role in cytosolic GDP‐fucose and fucosylated glycan synthesis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inactivation of SLC35C1 (GDP‐fucose transporter) and enzymes involved in GDP‐fucose biosynthesis was studied. Fucose supplementation increases the level of GDP‐fucose to abnormal, millimolar values in the absence of the TSTA3 protein and SLC35C1 in contrast to the GMDS/SLC35C1 double mutant.

Non-specific filtering of beta-distributed data. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BackgroundNon-specific feature selection is a dimension reduction procedure performed prior to cluster analysis of high dimensional molecular data. Not all measured features are expected to show biological variation, so only the most varying are selected

Kidney tumor segmentation using an ensembling multi-stage deep learning approach. A contribution to the KiTS19 challenge [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Precise characterization of the kidney and kidney tumor characteristics is of outmost importance in the context of kidney cancer treatment, especially for nephron sparing surgery which requires a precise localization of the tissues to be removed. The need for accurate and automatic delineation tools is at the origin of the KiTS19 challenge.
