Adenocarcinoma of the kidney is the commonest form of primary renal tumor in the adult. Early diagnosis is possible for this tumor due to its characteristic mode of spread and generally slow growth rate. In a third of cases, the diagnosis is made incidentally when the patient is still asymptomatic.

Renal cell cancer (RCC) is the major type of kidney cancer with increasing incidence. Obesity is one of the well-established risk factors for RCC. Meta-analyses including multiple cohort and case-control studies have found a consistent positive association between obesity and RCC.
