KIDNEY, TESTS OF FUNCTION OF

1979
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the tests of function of kidney. Kidney is an important organ for maintaining the chemical composition of the body within narrow limits. The glomerulus is a passive filter, allowing fluid of the same composition as extracellular fluid to pass into the tubular lumen: thus, the filtrate contains very little ...

FRACTIONAL KIDNEY FUNCTION TESTS

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1928
When Cushny crystallized the idea in regard to kidney physiology into the so-called modern theory of urine formation, he gave great impetus to the better understanding of all renal physiology. Richards and his co-workers with the capillary pipet have been able to supply existing theories in regard to urine formation with the foundation of experimental ...

A test of kidney and liver function in wethers

Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 1961
Para-aminohippurate (PAH) and para-aminobenzoate (PAB) are estimated in plasma and urine from wethers after a subcutaneous injection of PAB. The rate of synthesis of PAH from injected PL4B is taken as a measure of liver function and the rate of urinary excretion of the synthesized PAH as a measure of kidney function.

Kidney Function Tests and Urinalysis

2009
The most common surrogates of kidney function are serum creatinine, urea, cystatin C; however, these all have limitations, most important of which is that they do not accurately reflecting real-time dynamic changes in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) that occur in acute kidney injury (AKI) The Cockcroft-Gault and Modification of Diet in Renal Disease ...

THE SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF THE URINE AS A TEST OF KIDNEY FUNCTION

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1930
There are many tests of kidney function. Some of them are fundamentally unsound because the kidneys are not working to their fullest capacity at the time of the test. The most commonly used test belonging in this category is the estimation of the blood nonprotein nitrogen. Addis1has shown that the activity of 50 per cent of the kidneys is sufficient to
