Deep Learning Global Glomerulosclerosis in Transplant Kidney Frozen Sections

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2018
Transplantable kidneys are in very limited supply. Accurate viability assessment prior to transplantation could minimize organ discard. Rapid and accurate evaluation of intra-operative donor kidney biopsies is essential for determining which kidneys are ...

Copy Number Gains of VPS72 Drive De Novo Lipogenesis and Hepatocarcinogenesis via ATF3/mTORC1/SREBP1 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
VPS72 overexpression activates mTORC1 signaling, subsequently promoting lipid synthesis and driving HCC progression. VPS72 modulates the epigenetic landscape of ATF3 promoter, such as H2A.Z acetylation reduction and DNA methylation increase, which results in ATF3 repression and subsequent activation of mTORC1.

Jejunovesical Fistula Diagnosis After Normal Vaginal Delivery: A Case Report

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Medical Association
Enterovesical fistula represents an abnormal communication between the intestine and bladder. The causes are diverticulitis (56.3%), malignant tumours, which are located mainly in the intestine (20.1%), and Crohn’s disease (9.1%).

Latent Gaussian Mixture Models for Nationwide Kidney Transplant Center Evaluation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Five year post-transplant survival rate is an important indicator on quality of care delivered by kidney transplant centers in the United States. To provide a fair assessment of each transplant center, an effect that represents the center-specific care quality, along with patient level risk factors, is often included in the risk adjustment model.

Caspase‐6/Gasdermin C‐Mediated Tumor Cell Pyroptosis Promotes Colorectal Cancer Progression Through CXCL2‐Dependent Recruitment of Myeloid‐Derived Suppressor Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hypoxic and low‐glucose conditions in tumor tissues trigger colorectal tumor cell pyroptosis via sequential activation of the Caspase‐1/Caspase‐6/GSDMC axis. High mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), released from GSDMC‐mediated pyroptotic tumor cells, upregulates CXCL2 expression in adjacent tumor cells, thereby recruiting myeloid‐derived suppressor cells ...

Mas Signaling Potentiates Neutrophil Extracellular Traps Formation Induced by Endothelial Cells Derived S1P in Mice with Acute Liver Failure

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In mice challenged with lipopolysaccharide/D‐galactosamine (L/G), Mas signaling increased SHP2 in hepatic Col4a1+ endothelial cells, inhibiting farnesoid X receptor (FXR), potentially due to enterogenic deoxycholic acid. This inhibition activates sphingosine‐1‐phosphate‐induced Raf/MEK/ERK signaling in Cldn1+CD177+ neutrophils, causing neutrophil ...

Combining Sensitive Crossmatch Assays With Donor/Recipient Human Leukocyte Antigen Eplet Matching Predicts Living-Donor Kidney Transplant Outcome

open access: yesKidney International Reports, 2018
Introduction: Despite the different assays available for immune-risk stratification before living-donor kidney transplantation (LDKT), the precise type and number of tests to perform remain uncertain. Methods: In a cohort of 330 consecutive LDKT patients,

Immune and Angiogenic Profiling of Mesenchymal Stem Cell Functions in a Subcutaneous Microenvironment for Allogeneic Islet Transplantation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
With emphasis on a diabetic state, this study highlights the role of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in enhancing vascularization and modulating immune responses within a subcutaneous platform for cell transplantation for type 1 diabetes (T1D). Comprehensive profiling of MSC‐induced angiogenic and immune responses, provides insight into the role of MSCs ...

Minorization-Maximization-based Steepest Ascent for Large-scale Survival Analysis with Time-Varying Effects: Application to the National Kidney Transplant Dataset [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
The time-varying effects model is a flexible and powerful tool for modeling the dynamic changes of covariate effects. However, in survival analysis, its computational burden increases quickly as the number of sample sizes or predictors grows. Traditional methods that perform well for moderate sample sizes and low-dimensional data do not scale to ...
