Hypertension and kidney transplantation

Current Opinion in Nephrology and Hypertension, 1986
Hypertension in kidney transplant patients is a common complication that affects long-term patient and allograft survival. Although multifactorial in nature, at least two causes can be corrected by surgical or radiologic intervention--stenosis and native kidney-associated hypertension.

Transplantation: Kidney, Kidney–Pancreas Transplant

2014
With in-depth understanding of transplant immunology, more sensitive assays have been developed for immunological risk assessment, crossmatch, and detection of donor-specific antibodies. The discovery of potent immunosuppressive drugs has successfully reduced the risk of acute rejection and graft loss from rejection.

OPTN/SRTR 2023 Annual Data Report: Kidney.

American Journal of Transplantation
In 2023, the field of kidney transplantation faced both successes and challenges. A record 28,142 total kidney transplants were achieved in the United States, largely due to an increase in deceased donor kidney transplants (DDKTs).

Matchability in kidney transplantation

Tissue Antigens, 1988
The matchablity of a patient awaiting kidney transplantation is his propensity for being ‘well‐matched’. We present two methods for estimating matchability. It is commonly supposed that phenotype frequency is a good predictor of matchability. We show a correlation of only 0.3 between matchability and phenotype frequency using the definition of ‘well ...

Angiography of the Transplanted Kidney

Scandinavian Journal of Urology and Nephrology, 1968
Thirty angiographic examinations of transplanted kidneys were carried out in 24 patients. When the kidney function was satisfactory the angiographic appearances were characterized by a rapid passage of contrast medium, good filling of the peripheral branches, and a dense nephrographic phase with sharp delineation between the medulla and cortex. In ...

IMMUNIZATION IN KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION

2022
Immunization towards Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA) can occur through pregnancy, blood transfusion, or previous transplant. Determination of unacceptable and acceptable HLA antigen mismatches is a critical decision step in finding a suitable donor for the HLA immunized kidney recipients.

Outcomes in kidney transplantation

Seminars in Nephrology, 2003
It is estimated that there are greater than 100000 kidney transplant recipients with a functioning graft in the United States. Recent advances in immunosuppression have improved short-term graft survival rates and decreased early mortality by decreasing the incidence and therapy for acute rejection episodes.

Hyperuricemia in Kidney Transplantation

2004
Hyperuricemia is a common problem among renal transplant recipients. Its prevalence is clearly attributable to cyclosporine (CsA) use, although individual patients may have other risk factors as well. CsA lowers the urinary clearance of uric acid. The specific mechanism for this is unknown, but may involve alteration in tubular transport. Hyperuricemia
