Riemannian geometry of quantum groups and finite groups with nonuniversal differentials

open access: yes, 2000
We construct noncommutative `Riemannian manifold' structures on dual quasitriangular Hopf algebras such as $C_q[SU_2]$ with its standard bicovariant differential calculus, using the quantum frame bundle formalism introduced previously.

What Is the Role of Giant Endosomal Sorting Complexes Required for Transport (ESCRT) Structures in T Cell Activation?

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The article explores the discovery of unusually large, ring‐shaped ESCRT protein structures formed by immune and stromal cells. It investigates their formation, composition, and potential roles in immune synapse formation. The findings challenge assumptions about their function in immunological synapses, suggesting an exclusive role in maintaining ...

Targeted killing as a means of asymmetric warfare: a provocative view and invitation to debate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The killing of Mahmoud al-Mabhou reportedly by agents of Israel‟s Mossad service in Dubai a year ago1 serves as a quick reminder that extrajudicial executions, assassinations and other targeted killing operations are taking place and are part of a modern

Killing vector fields with twistor derivative

open access: yes, 2007
Motivated by the possible characterization of Sasakian manifolds in terms of twistor forms, we give the complete classification of compact Riemannian manifolds carrying a Killing vector field whose covariant derivative (viewed as a 2-form) is a twistor ...

Plasma‐Treated Hydrogel for Combined RONS and Chemotherapy Delivery: A Proof‐of‐Concept In Ovo

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores plasma‐treated hydrogels (PTH) as a new way to deliver both reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and chemotherapy (Doxorubicin) directly to tumors. In ovo tests show effects after a single dose, especially in osteosarcoma tumors. Tumor weight decrease, and a resistance‐related protein is reduced.

Conformal Structures Associated to Generic Rank 2 Distributions on 5-Manifolds – Characterization and Killing-Field Decomposition

open access: yesSymmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications, 2009
Given a maximally non-integrable 2-distribution D on a 5-manifold M, it was discovered by P. Nurowski that one can naturally associate a conformal structure [g]_D of signature (2,3) on M.

Classification of supersymmetric spacetimes in eleven dimensions

open access: yes, 2005
We derive, for spacetimes admitting a Spin(7) structure, the general local bosonic solution of the Killing spinor equation of eleven dimensional supergravity.

Precise Quantification of Angiogenesis in 3D Biomaterials Using in Vitro CAM Models: Enhancing 3Rs in Research and Minimizing in Vivo Dependency

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study develops elastin–fibrin scaffolds and evaluates angiogenesis using the chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model. Advanced imaging with confocal microscopy and Indocyanine Green dye enables precise 3D quantification of vascular networks. Findings demonstrate superior microvessel visualization compared to micro‐CT using Microfil and Optiray 350 ...

Polymerization of C9 enhances bacterial cell envelope damage and killing by membrane attack complex pores

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2021
Complement proteins can form membrane attack complex (MAC) pores that directly kill Gram-negative bacteria. MAC pores assemble by stepwise binding of C5b, C6, C7, C8 and finally C9, which can polymerize into a transmembrane ring of up to 18 C9 monomers ...

Superalgebras of Dirac operators on manifolds with special Killing-Yano tensors

open access: yes, 2006
We present the properties of new Dirac-type operators generated by real or complex-valued special Killing-Yano tensors that are covariantly constant and represent roots of the metric tensor.
