Improvement of energy efficiency in glass-melting furnaces, cement kilns and baking ovens
Applied Thermal Engineering, 1997Abstract This paper is aimed at presenting the utilisation of dedicated modelling tools for the optimisation of a variety of thermal equipment for high-, medium- and low-temperature heat transfer processes. A combination of modelling with advanced extensive on-line measurements is proposed as an approach for the development of optimisation procedures

Sensors for Monitoring and Control of Furnaces, Kilns and Ovens
1993Sensors for videomatic observation, temperature sensors, mass flux sensors and humidity sensors for the application in harsh environmental conditions are described. Literature studies, laboratory and industrial experiments for excisting sensors and new developments in the field of mass flux metering were carried out.

Energy Efficiency and Pollution Abatement in Glass Furnaces, Baking Ovens and Cement Kilns
1993The use of physically-based dedicated mathematical modelling for combustion chambers, load, preheaters and other associated equipment of ovens, kilns and furnaces, together with the implementation of advanced on-line sensors, may provide detailed knowledge of the very complex phenomena occurring in those industrial equipment.

Energy saving and pollution abatement in glass making furnaces, cement kilns and baking ovens
1992For the Dutch Ceramic Industry but also for the European CeramicIndustry there is a large variety of moisture sensors on the market for their dryingchambers. The question is, ‘Which measurement principle and which instrumentis best suited for my application (drying chamber)’?In this project TNO therefor tested several commercial available moisture ...

Kilns and ovens from 2nd millennium BCE settlement of Tell Barri (Syria)
2012Firing facilities have been exposed at Tell Barri within the levels dated to the 2nd millennium BC. The excavations yielded portions of the ancient settlement characterised by the presence of updraft and downdraft kilns in a stratigraphic sequence and in a relatively good state of preservation.
