Footwear Characteristics and Their Impact on Gait and Balance in Older Adults: A Systematic Review of Recent Evidence

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Improper footwear has been identified as a modifiable risk factor for falls in older adults. Studies suggest that certain footwear characteristics can impair gait and balance, thereby increasing the risk of falls. However, the impact of footwear on gait and balance control may vary across research protocols.

Perceived Labor Control Among Latinas: Examining the Role of Pregnancy Loss, Prenatal Depression, and Childbirth Pain Severity

open access: yesJournal of Midwifery &Women's Health, EarlyView.
Introduction Prenatal mental health, perception of pain, and pregnancy histories can affect a birthing person's sense of control during labor. Functional compartmentalization of the anconeus: A three‐dimensional study of muscle morphology and innervation patterns

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
In this anatomic study of anconeus utilizing dissection, digitization and 3D modeling, anconeus was found to have three distinct parts: proximal, distal, and deep. Each part had unique morphology, architecture and innervation, indicating different roles in forearm pronation, elbow extension, and joint stabilization.

Slow Wave Activity During Nocturnal Sleep in Hypersomnolence Disorder

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Slow waves during non‐rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep are associated with the restorative aspects of sleep. Previous research has suggested reduced normalized slow wave activity (SWA), particularly in the first cycle of NREM sleep, as a feature of hypersomnolence disorder (HD); however, the scarcity of existing research highlights the need for

Changes in brain functional connectivity and muscle strength independent of elbow flexor atrophy following upper limb immobilization in young females

open access: yesExperimental Physiology
Muscle disuse induces a decline in muscle strength that exceeds the rate and magnitude of muscle atrophy, suggesting that factors beyond the muscle contribute to strength loss.

Children Show Stronger Learning‐Dependent Explicit Knowledge Than Adults After Offline Wake or Sleep Intervals

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Previous research has extensively investigated the impact of post‐training sleep and wakefulness on procedural memory consolidation across development. However, results regarding how offline processes specifically affect the explicit and implicit components of newly acquired procedural skills in children and adults remain controversial.
