Mono‐Ethyl‐Phosphonates: Functional Group Masking Strategy to Stabilize and Optimize the Pharmacokinetics of Rare Earth Radiochelates

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
Prodrug strategies are used to enhance the pharmacokinetics of small molecule drugs. Here, this approach to rare earth coordination complexes is adopted with applications as diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals: a mono‐ethyl‐phosphonate polyazamacrocyclic chelator for 44Sc and 177Lu reduces blood and bone uptake.

Pyrazine‐Functionalized Ru(II)‐Complexes as Visible‐Light Activated Photobases

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Visible light excitation leads to the accumulation of electron density in pyrazine‐containing Ru(II) complexes via metal‐to‐ligand charge transfer (MLCT). In aqueous solutions of appropriate pH, excited‐state proton transfer (ESPT) takes place on a timescale of hundreds of ps.

Photocatalytic Hydrophosphination Using Calcium Precatalysts

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Calcium compounds are competent photocatalysts for hydrophosphination. Returning to the compounds reported by Barrett and Hill, visible light irradiation at ambient temperature activates simple calcium derivatives comparable to thermal catalysis. Ancillary ligands are key to radical versus nonradical reactivity under these conditions.

Fused Nitrogen Bridgehead N,O‐Acetals as Versatile Scaffolds: Synthetic Strategies, Mechanism and Applications

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Fused nitrogen‐bridgehead N,O‐acetals receive specific emphasis as pivotal scaffolds due to their significant role in the bioactivity of medicinally relevant molecules. Significant approaches have been reported on their role as key synthetic building blocks/motifs in the construction of complex organic molecules and their utility as chiral auxiliaries ...

Dinitrogen Splitting without Barrier or Visible Light‐Driven: Reactions of Vanadium Trimers and Dimers with Dinitrogen

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Striking differences between the reactivity of vanadium atoms, dimers, and trimer clusters were revealed by matrix isolation experiments. Vanadium atoms only form weakly bound N2 complexes, but the V3 cluster splits the NN triple bond to give a V3N2 cluster.

From C─H Bond Insertion to Hydrogen Atom Transfer: Tuning the Reaction Mechanisms of Methane Activation by the Oxidation of Ta2+

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
In a combined experimental and theoretical study, it is observed that the continued oxidation from Ta2+ to Ta2Ox+ (with x = 1 – 6) changes the reactivity with methane from a typical metallic to a typical oxidic behavior. While the bridging motifs in Ta2O2+ enable the dehydrogenation of CH4, the spin density on oxygen atoms in Ta2O5+ facilitates a HAT ...
