The motion of the ventricular walls is a result of the contractile effort of myocardial fibres and their structures. Under normal conditions the contraction of the fibres is said to be synergic; it stands for a coordinated synchronous upstroke of tension in the muscular elements during the isovolaemic phase and a shortening in the ejection phase.

A new non-contact technique for transduction of the kinetocardiogram has been investigated. The technique offers the prime advantage of complete isolation from the chest wall. Possible distortion due to source loading is eliminated. Other very desirable features are ease of utilization and the ability to produce consistent qualitative results.

Kinetocardiograms of the left and the right ventricles of the heart were recorded in puppies and adult dogs during development in them of experimental renovascular hypertension. Development of hypertension in adult dogs led to the shortening of ejection period, and in puppies--to its prolongation.
