High Habitat Potential but Limited Connectivity for Brown Bears Throughout Europe
ABSTRACT Aim Large carnivores worldwide have experienced substantial range contractions due to human activities, though several species are recolonising parts of their historical range. We aimed to assess current and potential European brown bear (Ursus arctos arctos) habitat as well as habitat connectivity on a continental scale. Location The extended

Genome-wide signatures of population bottlenecks and diversifying selection in European wolves [PDF]
Genomic resources developed for domesticated species provide powerful tools for studying the evolutionary history of their wild relatives. Here we use 61K single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) evenly spaced throughout the canine nuclear genome to ...

[Epidemiology of leptospirosis in the Kirov region].
The dynamics of leptospirosis morbidity in the Kirov region for many years is presented. The wide spread of leptospirosis foci, both natural and formed as the result of human activities, in the region is shown. The main role in infecting humans with leptospires belonged to the latter foci in a number of districts in the region was established.

Abstract We present the first reference genome of the highly heterozygous autotetraploid Allium porrum (leek). Combining long‐read sequencing with single‐nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)‐array screening of two experimental F1 populations, we generated a genetic map with 11,429 SNP markers across eight linkage groups and a chromosome‐scale assembly of A ...

Engineering Fragile Topology in Photonic Crystals: Topological Quantum Chemistry of Light
In recent years, there have been rapid advances in the parallel fields of electronic and photonic topological crystals. Topological photonic crystals in particular show promise for coherent transport of light and quantum information at macroscopic scales.

ABSTRACT Population declines may have long‐term genetic consequences, including genetic erosion and inbreeding depression, which could affect species' evolutionary potential and increase their risk of extinction. Small populations are more vulnerable to genetic threats than common species, but even species with large populations can also be at risk of ...

Approximation of functions of two variables by certain linear positive operators
We introduce certain linear positive operators and study some approximation properties of these operators in the space of functions, continuous on a compact set, of two variables.

Vibrational and dielectric properties of the bulk transition metal dichalcogenides [PDF]
Interest in the bulk transition metal dichalcogenides for their electronic, photovoltaic, and optical properties has grown and led to their use in many technological applications. We present a systematic investigation of their interlinked vibrational and

The Siberian flying squirrel Pteromys volans is an arboreal rodent with a distribution range that covers large parts of the Eurasian taiga forest zone. However, extensive forestry has resulted in widespread local population declines and extinctions in recent decades.
