Consistency of Seasonal Mean and Extreme Precipitation Projections Over Europe Across a Range of Climate Model Ensembles. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Geophys Res Atmos, 2023
Abstract Uncertainties of regional precipitation projections are substantial, and users of such projections face the so‐called practitioners dilemma: a plethora of projections with different models from different ensembles of different types and generations are available.

Soil moisture precipitation feedbacks in the Eastern European Alpine region in convection-permitting climate simulations. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Climatol, 2023
In a PGW framework (current, more humid, and dryer climates), heavy summertime precipitation events from the Eastern Alpine region to the Western Pannonian Basin prefer positive temporal with positive/negative spatial SMP feedbacks in a CPM. Uncertainty in local climate change is dominated by deep soil moisture uncertainty in future climates.

Unlocking the Activity of Molecular Assemblies for CO2 Electroreduction in Zero-Gap Electrolysers via Catalyst Ink Engineering. [PDF]

open access: yesSmall
Ink composition plays an even more crucial role than thought before in the activity of molecular electrocatalysts. By refining solvent‐catalyst and solvent‐carbon combinations for different Ag‐BIAN catalysts, up to 67% faradaic efficiency is achieved for CO production at 600 mA cm⁻2 with minimal catalyst loading, providing a pathway to enhance CO2 ...

How decarbonization and the circular economy interact: Benefits and trade-offs in the case of the buildings, transport, and electricity sectors in Austria. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Ind Ecol
Abstract The widely heralded decarbonization of economies is a significant intervention in countries' societal metabolism, which eliminates the use of fossil fuels but also requires renewing societal stocks such as buildings, vehicles, and power plants, which in turn requires materials and energy. The circular economy (CE) shifts a country's metabolism

Pr‐ and Co‐substitution in rare earth nickelates: Application as SOEC air electrodes

open access: yesFuel Cells, Volume 23, Issue 6, Page 387-398, December 2023., 2023
Abstract In this work, fundamental material properties of compounds in the system (La,Pr)2(Ni,Co)O4+δ as well as their performance as air electrodes in solid oxide electrolysis cells were investigated. Nickelates co‐doped with Pr and Co were characterized on a material basis by means of X‐ray diffraction and thermogravimetry.

The Role of Alpha‐Methylbenzyl Ammonium Iodide to Reduce Defect Densities in Perovskite Devices

open access: yesSolar RRL, Volume 7, Issue 20, October 2023., 2023
Herein, a quasi‐2D p–i–n perovskite solar cell incorporating alpha‐methylbenzyl ammonium iodide cation with outstanding photovoltaic performance and stability is developed. Hybrid organic–inorganic perovskite photovoltaic has achieved unmatched power conversion efficiency (PCE) improvement in the last decade. Nevertheless, nonradiative recombination of

Magnetic Field Effect in Hydrogen‐Bonded Semiconductor‐Based Organic Field‐Effect Transistors

open access: yesphysica status solidi (a), Volume 220, Issue 7, April 2023., 2023
The magnetic field effect in hydrogen‐bonded semiconductor‐based organic field‐effect transistors is investigated. Herein, the magnetic field effect on the source–drain current of organic field‐effect transistors with semiconductor layers made of H‐bonded pigments is studied.

Technological learning: Lessons learned on energy technologies

open access: yesWIREs Energy and Environment, Volume 12, Issue 2, March/April 2023., 2023
Example of different technological learning curves based on the technology classification of Neij (1997) into modules (e.g., PV panel), whole power plants, and continuous processes [e.g., mass production of chemicals and the defined average learning rates (LR)].

Experimental evaluation of the role of inorganic phosphorus for terrestrial carbon degradation in stream hyporheic zones

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 67, Issue 11, Page 1873-1888, November 2022., 2022
Abstract The hyporheic zone (HZ) is a hotspot of carbon processing in stream ecosystems as a consequence of the mixing of organic matter and nutrients from ground water and surface waters. However, major knowledge gaps exist regarding the drivers of microbial activity and carbon processing in the HZ among stream ecosystems with different carbon sources

Probability forecasts of ice accretion on wind turbines derived from multiphysics and neighbourhood ensembles

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, Volume 148, Issue 746, Page 2446-2467, July 2022 Part A., 2022
Icing events can reduce the power production of wind turbines, or cause their shutdown for safety reasons. The complexity of the atmospheric processes involved makes the forecasting of such events extremely challenging. In this work, high‐resolution multiphysics ensemble forecasts of icing are developed.
