Distal Femoral Replacement With a Metaphyseal Sleeve: Outcomes and Risk Factors for Subsidence

In this study, we report on the outcomes of our experience using a metaphyseal sleeve with a distal femoral replacement (DFR) and review the risk factors for sleeve subsidence over a 3 year period.

Hip external rotation can cause compression of the quadratus femoris (QF) between the ischial tuberosity and lesser trochanter of the femur, resulting in pain in the buttock, hip, and groin which can radiate down the leg. Ultrasound imaging can demonstrate dynamic impingement of the QF, including symptom provocation.
