Stress injuries to the bone and physis of the knee are common in the active adolescent patient and can be broken down into bone stress injuries (BSIs) and chronic physeal stress injuries. BSIs result from prolonged, repetitive bone loading, whereas chronic physeal stress injuries develop from repetitive loading to the apophysis or epiphysis.

Although other major lower extremity injuries have diminished in incidence in recent years, knee sprains have not and do not seem likely to do so in the near future. The diagnosis and treatment of ligamentous, meniscal, and patellofemoral injuries are detailed.

Knee and leg injuries are extremely common presentations to the emergency department. Understanding the anatomy of the knee, particularly the vasculature and ligamentous structures, can help emergency physicians (EPs) diagnose and manage these injuries. Use of musculoskeletal ultrasonography can further aid EPs through the diagnostic process.

Racquet sports involve sharp, side-to-side movements and impose significant valgus and rotatory stresses on the knee. Most knee injuries are indirect as a result of these acute stresses and overuse. Some of the more common racquet sport injuries include tennis leg, jumper's knee, patello-femoral pain, meniscal injuries, bursitis, and tendinitis.

In spite of considerable research efforts, knee injuries continue to plague athletes. The rate of occurrence may actually be increasing. Particularly vulnerable to injury because of its anatomic location, the knee sustains a tremendous amount of force during sports.

Many knee injuries that previously caused disability can now be diagnosed accurately and treated successfully. Arthroscopy has been instrumental in this progress. The anterior cruciate ligament, which is an important stabilizer of the knee, is commonly injured.

Primary Care: Clinics in Office Practice, 2020
Hip and knee injuries are a common presenting concern for patients to a primary care office. This pathology represents a large differential and it can often be a diagnostic challenge for providers to determine the etiology of a patient's symptoms. This article discusses several of the most common causes for hip and knee pain while providing an evidence

A review of injury patterns to the knee joint in gymnastics seen at our sport medicine clinic over a six and one-half year period reveals the patellofemoral pain syndrome to be more than twice as frequent as any other type of injury. Sprains are second in frequency but first in order of problems requiring emergency surgical treatment.
