Automatic Grading of Individual Knee Osteoarthritis Features in Plain Radiographs using Deep Convolutional Neural Networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common musculoskeletal disease in the world. In primary healthcare, knee OA is diagnosed using clinical examination and radiographic assessment. Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) atlas of OA radiographic features allows to perform independent assessment of knee osteophytes, joint space narrowing ...

Anion‐Vacancy Activated Vanadium Sulfoselenide With In‐Plane Heterostructure Enabling Durable and Wide‐Temperature Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The anion defect engineering strategy for one‐step in situ anchoring vanadium sulfoselenide on V2CTx template (VSSe/V2CTx) in‐plane heterostructure with built‐in anion vacancy is proposed. The incorporation of Se atom into VS2 not only regulates the electronic structure of the central metal V atom and enhances the intrinsic electrical conductivity, but

New Mechanics of Generic Musculo-Skeletal Injury [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
Prediction and prevention of musculo-skeletal injuries is an important aspect of preventive health science. Using as an example a human knee joint, this paper proposes a new coupled-loading-rate hypothesis, which states that a generic cause of any musculo-skeletal injury is a Euclidean jolt, or SE(3)-jolt, an impulsive loading that hits a joint in ...

Accelerating Sono‐Piezoelectric Charge Transport for Antibacterial Therapy and Bone Regeneration by Metal‐Deficient TiO2 Spin‐Polarization Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The deficient TiO2 (DTO) and Barium titanate (BTO) heterojunction treats osteomyelitis through SDT. The spin‐polarization effect induced by the unpaired spin electrons in Ti atoms can expedite the transfer of ultrasonic piezoelectric charges in BTO, enhancing surface sonocatalytic efficiency.

Bioinspired Liquid‐Free Ion‐Conductive Elastomers with Ultrahigh Mechanical Strength and Excellent Ionic Conductivity for Multifunctional Flexible Sensing Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
⁻Inspired by the “brick wall” structure of pearl layer, FLICE‐110% liquid‐free ionic conductive elastomer had high mechanical strength (5.46 MPa), excellent ionic conductivity (3.29 × 10−4 S cm−1) and resilience. It can be used in smart music boxes, airplane wings and control manipulators.

Enhanced Knee Kinematics: Leveraging Deep Learning and Morphing Algorithms for 3D Implant Modeling [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Accurate reconstruction of implanted knee models is crucial in orthopedic surgery and biomedical engineering, enhancing preoperative planning, optimizing implant design, and improving surgical outcomes. Traditional methods rely on labor-intensive and error-prone manual segmentation.
