Orthopaedic Nursing
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) typically presents with joint pain that is exacerbated by use and alleviated with rest. There is relatively brief, self-limited morning stiffness and absence of constitutional symptoms. Overweight and obesity are the most important modifiable risk factors.

Viscosupplementation for Osteoarthritis of the Knee
New England Journal of Medicine, 2015A 67-year-old woman with osteoarthritis of the right knee seeks guidance regarding the possible benefit of hyaluronate injection. Injections of hyaluronate for viscosupplementation have been used in osteoarthritis of the knee, but their efficacy remains uncertain.

Knee height, knee pain, and knee osteoarthritis: The Beijing Osteoarthritis Study
Arthritis & Rheumatism, 2005AbstractObjectiveFew risk factors for knee osteoarthritis (OA) are appreciated, and the discordance between symptoms and the severity of structural disease has not been explained. Knee height contributes to moments around the knee. The longer the leg, the more torque is present.

Radiography in osteoarthritis of the knee
Skeletal Radiology, 1999Osteoarthritis (OA) is a multifactorial process affecting cartilage and subchondral bone. Conventional radiographs are inexpensive and readily available. The increased knowledge with regard to interpreting weightbearing radiographs of the tibiofemoral joint and axial radiographs of the patellofemoral joint will enable these examinations to remain ...

Early osteoarthritis of the knee
Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, 2016AbstractThere is an increasing awareness on the importance in identifying early phases of the degenerative processes in knee osteoarthritis (OA), the crucial period of the disease when there might still be the possibility to initiate treatments preventing its progression.

Osteoarthritis of the knee is a frequent cause of severe disability in the elderly patient. Usually these patients develop a varus or valgus deformity, with narrowing of the joint space due to articular cartilage destruction on the medial or lateral side.

Imaging in knee osteoarthritis
Current Opinion in Rheumatology, 2017Purpose of review Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent and disabling disease still necessitating research in pathogenic mechanisms, predictors of disease progression and responsive techniques to detect the slow structural changes within a short time frame. In this scenario, imaging modalities are essential.

Exercise for osteoarthritis of the knee
Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2015Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a major public health issue because it causes chronic pain, reduces physical function and diminishes quality of life. Ageing of the population and increased global prevalence of obesity are anticipated to dramatically increase the prevalence of knee OA and its associated impairments.

Exercise for osteoarthritis of the knee
2008Biomechanical factors, such as reduced muscle strength and joint malalignment, have an important role in the initiation and progression of knee osteoarthritis (OA). Currently, there is no known cure for OA; however, disease-related factors, such as impaired muscle function and reduced fitness, are potentially amenable to therapeutic exercise. To ...

Anteromedial osteoarthritis of the knee
The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1991Medial tibial plateaux excised during 46 unicompartmental arthroplasties for osteoarthritis were collected and photographed. The anterior cruciate ligament was intact in all joints. In every case the cartilage and bone erosion was centred anteriorly on the plateau and the posterior cartilage was intact.
