Introduction to Prosthetic Limbs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Approximately 2 million people in the Unites States alone have had an amputation, and many of these people use a prosthetic limb daily. The prosthetic limb, which began as a primitive device, is now a highly sophisticated piece of technology.

Expanding the Tyrosine Kinase Domain of CSF1R? A Case Report From an Adult‐Onset Leukoencephalopathy

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Adult‐onset leukoencephalopathy with axonal spheroids and pigmented glia (ALSP), also termed hereditary diffuse leukoencephalopathy with spheroids‐1 (HDLS1), results from mutations in the CSF1R gene and leads to progressive leukoencephalopathy.

Interactions Between Transfemoral Amputees and a Powered Knee Prosthesis During Load Carriage

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Machines and humans become mechanically coupled when lower limb amputees walk with powered prostheses, but these two control systems differ in adaptability. We know little about how they interact when faced with real-world physical demands (e.g. carrying

Study on Gait Efficiency and Energy Cost of Below Knee Amputees After Therapeutic Practices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
An earlier research advocated that a below knee amputee (BK) with conventional trans-tibial prosthesis attains higher gait efficiency at lower energy cost with therapeutic practices of proper time and co-ordination in compare to normal subjects of ...

A circumferentially flanged tibial tray minimizes bone-tray shear micromotion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Aseptic loosening of the tibial component is the major complication of total knee arthroplasty. There is an association between early excessive shear micromotion between the bone and the tray of the tibial component and late aseptic loosening.

Stiffness Analysis of Above Knee Prosthesis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Intelligent Systems and Applications in Engineering, 2019
While a healthy human walks, his or her legs mutually perform good repeatability with high accuracy. This provides an esthetical movement and balance. People with above knee prosthesis want to perform walking as esthetical as a healthy human. Therefore, to achieve a healthy walking, the above knee prosthesis must provide a good stiffness performance ...

Matrix‐assisted autologous chondrocyte transplantation is effective at mid/long‐term for knee lesions: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This systematic review with meta‐analysis evaluates the long‐term efficacy of matrix‐assisted autologous chondrocyte transplantation (MACT) in terms of functional scores using scaffolds made of hyaluronic acid (HA) or collagen (C). Methods Nineteen articles met the eligibility criteria for the analysis.

Trip Recovery in Lower-Limb Prostheses using Reachable Sets of Predicted Human Motion [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
People with lower-limb loss, the majority of which use passive prostheses, exhibit a high incidence of falls each year. Powered lower-limb prostheses have the potential to reduce fall rates by actively helping the user recover from a stumble, but the unpredictability of the human response makes it difficult to design controllers that ensure a ...

The Markov model of a dynamic system based on experimental data for control problems of bionic prostheses [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
This article is devoted to a prediction of gait kinematics based on the Markov chains in the delay space. We use hypercubic grid in the delay space of angles in the sagittal plane in the knee and hip joints to construct Markov states. Our experimental signal (obtained from the telemetry of the prosthesis) provides transition probabilities.

Improved quadriceps efficiency with a medial pivot in comparison to a cruciate‐retaining design in total knee arthroplasty

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The posterior cruciate‐retaining (CR) design offers rotational freedom but risks abnormal kinematics and instability. The medial pivot (MP) design mimics native joint motion with a high‐conformity medial and flat lateral interface. Within clinical studies, the MP design outclassed the CR design, but biomechanical studies are lacking ...
