Recognition algorithms in knot theory

Russian Mathematical Surveys, 2003
This survey is about recognition algorithms in knot theory. Several combinatorial methods for representing links are discussed, including different ways of representing the knots and the problem of transforming one representation into another. Special attention is paid to the Haken algorithm for recognizing the unknot, and to the word and conjugacy ...

Knot Theory and Quantum Gravity

Physical Review Letters, 1988
A new representation for quantum general relativity is described, which is defined in terms of functionals of sets of loops in three-space. In this representation exact solutions of the quantum constraints may be obtained. This result is related to the simplification of the constraints in Ashtekar's new formalism.

Novikov homologies in Knot theory

Mathematical Notes, 1992
Let \(K\) be a knot in \(S^ 3\). To define Novikov homologies of the knot space \(M = S^ 3 - K\), one should take a closed 1-form \(\omega\) on \(M\) such that \(\omega\) can be lifted to the differential of a Morse function \(f:\widetilde M \to R\) where \(\widetilde{M}\) is an infinite cyclic covering of \(M\).

Knot theory and statistical mechanics

International Journal of Modern Physics B, 1997
This paper gives a self-contained exposition of the basic structure of quantum link invariants as state summations for a vacuum-vacuum scattering amplitude. Models of Vaughan Jones are expressed in this context. A simple proof is given that an important subset of these invariants are built from Vassiliev invariants of finite type.

DISTRIBUTIVE GROUPOIDS IN KNOT THEORY

Mathematics of the USSR-Sbornik, 1984
A sequence of new knot invariants is constructed by using the relationship between the theory of distributive groupoids and knot theory.Bibliography: 3 titles.
