Hierarchical Artificial Muscle with Nonlinear Elasticity for Antagonistic and Cyclic Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We construct hierarchical muscles by plying nylon fibers around a heating wire. The hierarchical muscle shows a J‐shaped passive curve, which shows benefit in antagonistic muscle pair and work accumulation mechanism. We also develop a computational, first‐principle model to understand the physics of both active actuation stroke and passive J‐curve ...

Dislocations and fibrations: the topological structure of knotted defects in smectic liquid crystals

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics
In this work, we investigate the topological properties of knotted defects in smectic liquid crystals. Our story begins with screw dislocations, whose radial surface structure can be smoothly accommodated on S ^3 for fibred knots by using the ...

Circuit complexity of knot states in Chern-Simons theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
We compute an upper bound on the circuit complexity of quantum states in 3d Chern-Simons theory corresponding to certain classes of knots. Specifically, we deal with states in the torus Hilbert space of Chern-Simons that are the knot complements on the 3-

Harnessing Phase Separation for the Development of High‐Performance Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogels are indispensable for the development of next‐generation bioelectronics, soft robotics, and biomedical devices, where their mechanical properties determine performance and reliability. Among strategies to enhance hydrogel mechanics, phase separation enables controlled heterogeneity resulting in gel networks that are reinforced by ...

Dithioketal Polymers Via Radical Polymerization of γ‐Dithiobutyrolactone

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
γ‐Dithiobutyrolactone (DTBL) behaves like a ring‐retaining monomer in radical copolymerization with a series of conjugated monomers like styrene, t‐butyl acrylate and N,N‐dimethylacrylamide. The resulting copolymers contain controlled fractions of dithioketal linkages in their backbone, allowing chemical degradation.

Matrix Factorizations and Kauffman Homology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The topological string interpretation of homological knot invariants has led to several insights into the structure of the theory in the case of sl(N).

Link homology and equivariant gauge theory

open access: yes, 2015
The singular instanton Floer homology was defined by Kronheimer and Mrowka in connection with their proof that the Khovanov homology is an unknot detector.

Helicalization of Covalent Organic Framework Nanofibers with Amplified Spin Polarizability for Boosting Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A non‐covalent chirality‐induced strategy via chiral solvents is presented to synthesize helical 2D COF nanofibers with high crystallinity, high chirality, and high spin polarization. The helical structure enhances the concentration of photogenerated charges, suppresses exciton recombination, and extends carrier lifetimes, thereby significantly ...

Electrolyte Covalent Organic Frameworks for Exceptional Potassium Ion Conduction

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
One‐pot polymerization of monomers with oligo(ethylene oxide) side chains of different lengths creates electrolyte covalent organic frameworks with well‐defined K+‐electrolyte pathways in 1D pores for K+ conduction. The materials promote K+ conduction exponentially with the side chain length, achieve exceptional conductivity, and enable frictionless ...

Perturbative BF theory

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2020
We consider a superrenormalisable gauge theory of topological type, in which the structure group is equal to the inhomogeneous group ISU(2). The generating functional of the correlation functions of the gauge fields is derived and its connection with the
