This paper answers a question of Burns, Karrass and Solitar by giving examples of knot and link groups which are not subgroup-separable. For instance, it is shown that the fundamental group of the square knot complement is not subgroup separable.

Recurving tropical cyclones in the western North Pacific are stronger than non‐recurving ones: Causes and implications

This study investigates the statistical characteristics of recurving tropical cyclones (TCs) over the western North Pacific (WNP). We find that recurving TCs are, on average, 38% stronger than non‐recurving TCs, owing to longer ocean exposure, fewer landfalls, and passage through warmer, more favorable thermal environments.

Propagation of internal gravity waves: Optimal vertical discretisation and grid design based on numerical error analysis

An energy‐conserving discrete framework for the vertical discretisation of stratified ocean models is developed using internal gravity‐wave theory. A β$$ \beta $$‐indexed family of schemes is analysed through perturbation theory, revealing optimal parameter choices and grid designs that reduce truncation errors significantly.
