Qualitative Knowledge Discovery

2008
Knowledge discovery and data mining deal with the task of finding useful information and especially rules in unstructured data. Most knowledge discovery approaches associate conditional probabilities to discovered rules in order to specify their strength. In this paper, we propose a qualitative approach to knowledge discovery.

Supporting Knowledge Discovery in Medicine

2014
Our ontology-based benchmarking infrastructure for hospitals, we presented on the eHealth 2012, has meanwhile proven useful. Besides, we gathered manifold experience in supporting knowledge discovery in medicine. This also led to further functions and plans with our software.

Knowledge discovery in rule bases

1997
In rule based, automated management systems, knowledge is represented explicitly as long as it is necessary for the functioning of the system. However, some knowledge which might be quite useful for maintenance purposes, remains implicit and disseminated in the rule base.

The hierarchies of knowledge and the mathematics of discovery

Minds and Machines, 1991
Abstract Philosophy before and after mid-century is united in a rejection of a central goal of traditional epistemology from Plato to Boole: a theory of discovery. Plato and Aristotle thought the goal of philosophy, among other goals, was to provide methods for coming to have knowledge.

Knowledge discovery in data warehouses

ACM SIGMOD Record, 2000
As the size of data warehouses increase to several hundreds of gigabytes or terabytes, the need for methods and tools that will automate the process of knowledge extraction, or guide the user to subsets of the dataset that are of particular interest, is becoming prominent.

Actionable knowledge discovery and delivery

WIREs Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, 2012
AbstractActionable knowledge has been qualitatively and intensively studied in the social sciences. Its marriage with data mining is only a recent story. On the one hand, data mining has been booming for a while and has attracted an increasing variety of increasing applications. On the other, it is a reality that the so‐called knowledge discovered from

Knowledge Discovery in Databases: An Overview

1997
Data Mining and knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) promise to play an important role in the way people interact with databases, especially decision support databases where analysis and exploration operations are essential. Inductive logic programming can potentially play some key roles in KDD. This is an extended abstract for an invited talk in the
