Research on Static and Dynamic Characteristics of Gas-lubricated Microbearings for Microfluidic Devices

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Aerodynamic journal microbearings with microtribological phenomena significantly influence the operating stability of microfluidic devices. The modified Reynolds equations including different rarefaction models are derived and are solved by the partial ...

Low-Knudsen-number photophoresis of aerosol spheroids [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2005
The photophoretic motion of a freely suspended aerosol spheroid exposed to a radiative heat flux that is oriented arbitrarily with respect to its axis of revolution is analytically studied. The Knudsen number is assumed to be so small that the fluid flow can be described by a continuum model with a thermal slip at the particle surface.

Lattice Boltzmann method at finite Knudsen numbers [PDF]

open access: yesEurophysics Letters (EPL), 2005
A modified lattice Boltzmann model with a stochastic relaxation mechanism mimicking "virtual'' collisions between free-streaming particles and solid walls is introduced. This modified scheme permits to compute plane channel flows in satisfactory agreement with analytical results over a broad spectrum of Knudsen numbers, ranging from the hydrodynamic ...

On Some Theoretical Aspects of The Evaporation Process of a Droplet and Its Optimal Size When Extinguishing Fires

open access: yesInventions, 2023
We are proposing a model mathematical description of droplet evaporation using the kinetic approach. We have obtained the basic equation of the theory by using the law of conserving the full power of the vapor–liquid system, which has not been done ...

Fractional time derivative on fluid flow through horizontal microchannel filled with porous material

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 2023
Fractional time derivative is considered in the description of the unsteady fluid flow through a horizontal microchannel filled with porous material. The resultant governing equations were solved using the Laplace transform technique and the method of ...

Solving the Boltzmann equation deterministically by the fast spectral method : application to gas microflows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Based on the fast spectral approximation to the Boltzmann collision operator, we present an accurate and efficient deterministic numerical method for solving the Boltzmann equation.

A wall-function approach to incorporating Knudsen-layer effects in gas micro flow simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
For gas flows in microfluidic configurations, the Knudsen layer close to the wall can comprise a substantial part of the entire flow field and has a major effect on quantities such as the mass flow rate through micro devices.

A note on the lattice Boltzmann method beyond the Chapman Enskog limits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A non-perturbative analysis of the Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) model kinetic equation for finite values of the Knudsen number is presented. This analysis indicates why discrete kinetic versions of the BGK equation, and notably the Lattice Boltzmann ...

Entropy Generation Due to Laminar Incompressible Forced Convection Flow Through Parallel-Plates Microchannel

open access: yesEntropy, 2004
: The entropy generation due to steady laminar forced convection fluid flow through parallel plates microchannel is investigated numerically. The effect of Knudsen, Reynolds, Prandtl, Eckert numbers and the nondimensional temperature difference on ...

Impact of Improved Design on Knudsen Force for Micro Gas Sensor

open access: yesMicromachines, 2020
Knudsen force generated by thermally driven gas flow in a microscale structure has been used for gas detection and has shown immeasurable potential in the field of microelectromechanical system (MEMS) gas sensors due to its novel sensing characteristics.
