Modeling the drying of an unsaturated deformable porous medium: Application to packaging kraft paper [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
The main objective of this work is to model heat transfer in Kraft paper during drying. The model developed takes into account BIOT's assumptions regarding a uniform temperature environment; the paper used is assumed to be thermally thin (BIOT number Bi <

U Geminorum: a test case for orbital parameters determination

open access: yes, 2007
High-resolution spectroscopy of U Gem was obtained during quiescence. We did not find a hot spot or gas stream around the outer boundaries of the accretion disk. Instead, we detected a strong narrow emission near the location of the secondary star.

Ozone Treatments of Bleached Kraft Pulp and Waste Paper

open access: yesJAPAN TAPPI JOURNAL, 2001
Commercial bleached kraft pulps were treated by ozone. Changes in the total halogen and ethanol extractable organic halogen of these pulps as well as brightness, viscosity and the water retention value were investigated during the ozone treatment. The effects of the ozone treatment on the total halogen and ethanol extractable organic halogen of the ...

Asphalted parking lots are environmental filters for multiple propagule dispersal and pollination strategies

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Understanding community assembly for wild species in anthropogenic settings has become increasingly important as biodiversity and ecosystem services are threatened by development pressures. Urban hardscape habitats such as parking lots are widespread, extreme, terrestrial anthropogenic environments that influence plant community assembly by way of ...

Oxygen Abundances in Two Metal-Poor Subgiants from the Analysis of the 6300 A Forbidden O I Line

open access: yes, 1999
Recent LTE analyses (Israelian et al. 1998 and Bosegaard et al. 1999) of the OH bands in the optical-ultraviolet spectra of nearby metal-poor subdwarfs indicate that oxygen abundances are generally higher than those previously determined.

Chemical Modification of Kraft Cellulose Fibres: Influence of Pretreatment on Paper Properties

open access: yesBioResources, 2015
Chemical modifications of cellulose fibres (kraft pulp) in NaOH/H2O and NaCl/H2O systems were investigated. Handsheets were prepared that contained 25% of the modified fibres.

A Chandra study of particle acceleration in the multiple hotspots of nearby radio galaxies

open access: yes, 2007
We present Chandra observations of a small sample of nearby classical double radio galaxies which have more than one radio hotspot in at least one of their lobes.

Stabilized Cellulase in Chitosan–Polyvinyl Alcohol Biopolymer Beads for Sustainable Enzymatic Deinking of Recycled Paper

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
A stable and reusable biocatalyst, cellulase@Cs/PVA/Ga, is engineered by immobilizing cellulase onto glutaraldehyde‐activated chitosan (Cs) and coating it with polyvinyl alcohol. This composite system enhances enzymatic stability and efficiency for the sustainable deinking of recycled newspaper, offering a green alternative to harsh chemical treatments.

Enhancing the Functional Properties of Polylactic Acid by Incorporation of Esterified Lignin

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Esterified lignin from agro‐industrial wastes enhances the hydrophobicity, UV‐shielding efficiency, and antioxidant capacity of polylactic acid composites. ABSTRACT Incorporating lignin as an additive is a promising strategy to overcome the limitations of PLA‐based composites.
