Comment on Kraft Process─Formation of Secoisolariciresinol Structures and Incorporation of Fatty Acids in Kraft Lignin

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2022
This paper presents comments on the recently published article by Lahtinen et al., showing results about study the chemical structure of insoluble residual lignin, the presence of fatty acids in kraft lignin, and the origin of the secoisolariciresinol fragment. The analytical procedures used in the study seem to be reliable. However, in my opinion, the

Kinetic Model for Kraft Pulping Process

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2005
A new mechanism is proposed for the heterogeneous delignification reaction during the Kraft pulping process. The mechanism consists of three key kinetic steps:  (1) adsorption of hydroxide and hydrosulfide ions on lignin; (2) surface reaction on the solid surface to produce degraded lignin products; and (3) desorption of degradation products from the ...

Control Strategy Scheme for the Prehydrolysis Kraft Process

Computer Aided Chemical Engineering, 2018
Abstract This paper presents a control strategy scheme for the prehydrolysis stage in the prehydrolysis kraft process. The key element of the proposed control strategy is a softsensor, which estimates the rate of the unobservable reactions based on a physicochemical dynamic model of the process.

Hindrance to nanofibrillation of undried pulp produced by the kraft cooking process

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2022
Kraft pulp is the most common and economically advantageous raw material for making cellulose nanofibers (CNFs). However, when kraft pulp is subjected to mechanical fibrillation, unfibrillated pulp always remains, even though the pulp is undried. In this study, the effect of the kraft pulping process on the fibrillation of undried pulp was studied. The

Integration of a cogeneration unit into a kraft pulping process

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2010
The integration of cogeneration with other measures that impact the power production capacity in a Canadian Kraft pulping mill is studied. Those measures are removal of pressure reduction valves, adjustment of the steam pressure level, biomass boiler capacity, and reduction in process energy demand.

The Problems in Delignification of Dry Wood by Kraft Process

Key Engineering Materials, 2016
The objective of this study was to assess the causes of the problems arising in the CBC kraft cooking of several types of hardwood chips particularly in view of high dry matter but also in view of chip thickness and character of wood.High dry matter of processed chips influences negatively delignification.

Bioproducts Process Pathways for Kraft Paper Mills

Journal of ASTM International, 2010
Energy use in the United States is heavily reliant on imported fossil fuels. Finding a way to produce renewable fuels that can replace these fossil fuels will address national security threats, sustainability concerns inherent in the use of fossil fuels, and keep manufacturing in rural areas.

Surface Modification of Kraft Lignin by Mechanochemical Processing with Sodium Percarbonate

Biomacromolecules, 2023
In this article, we present a novel one-pot mechanochemical reaction for the surface activation of lignin. The process involves environmentally friendly oxidation with hydrogen peroxide, depolymerization of fractions with high molecular mass, and introduction of new carbonyl functions into the lignin backbone.
