Dynamic geo‐hydrogeological monitoring‐driven situational awareness for real‐time floor water inrush risk prediction in deep mining

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The fused data extracted from the distributed monitoring system as the data basis, combined with dynamic geological data, are imported into a deep learning model. As the geological conditions of mining and excavation change, the risk of water inrush at the working face is retrieved in real time.

GEOSTATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF SOIL PROPERTIES OF THE KARSTIC SUB-HORIZONTAL PLAIN OF THE YUCATAN PENINSULA

open access: yesTropical and Subtropical Agroecosystems, 2021
Background: In recently formed karst environments, as in the north of the state of Yucatan, Mexico, many chemical and physical properties of soils have a high spatial heterogeneity.

Exploration versus Exploitation Using Kriging Surrogate Modelling in Electromagnetic Design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper discusses the use of kriging surrogate modelling in multiobjective design optimisation in electromagnetics. The importance of achieving appropriate balance between exploration and exploitation is emphasised when searching for the global ...

Sunshine Duration in Brazil From Meteosat (1983–2020): Climatology, Variability and Long‐Term Trends

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Using nearly four decades of Meteosat satellite data (1983–2020), this study presents a country‐wide climatology of sunshine duration (SDU) in Brazil. The results reveal marked regional contrasts, dominant modes of variability, and significant long‐term trends, providing new information on the most relevant meteorological systems that influence SDU and

Simulation‐Informed Evaluation of Microvascular Parameter Mapping for Diffusion MR Imaging of Solid Tumours

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose We aim to inform the design of new diffusion MRI (dMRI) approaches for microvasculature quantification that enhance the biological specificity of imaging towards cancer. Methods We adopted simulation‐informed modelling of the vascular dMRI signal. We synthesised signals from 1500 synthetic vascular networks, for a variety of protocols (

Optimized Weighted Ensemble Approach for Enhancing Gold Mineralization Prediction

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
The economic value of a mineral resource is highly dependent on the accuracy of grade estimations. Accurate predictions of mineral grades can help businesses decide whether to invest in a mining project and optimize mining operations to maximize the ...

Assessing high‐resolution numerical models and bottom‐boundary factors for a Mediterranean heavy precipitation event

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
State‐of‐the‐art, convection‐permitting NWP models reproduced the main features of the October 22–23, 2019 heavy precipitation event in Catalonia. However, slight configuration changes yielded varying streamflow responses and statistical performance, highlighting the challenge of simulating these events in Mediterranean medium‐sized basins ...

On the Performance of Neural Network Residual Kriging in Radio Environment Mapping

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
This paper addresses the research question: can feedforward neural network (FFNN)-based path loss modeling improve the accuracy of Kriging? Radio propagation factors, which consist of path loss and shadowing, can accurately be obtained via crowdsourcing ...

Sorrentina Peninsula: Geographical Distribution of the Indoor Radon Concentrations in Dwellings—Gini Index Application

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
The radon isotope (222Rn, half-life 3.8 days) is a radioactive byproduct of the 238U decay chain. Because radon is the second biggest cause of lung cancer after smoking, dense maps of indoor radon concentration are required to implement effective locally

Interpolating point spread function anisotropy

open access: yes, 2012
Planned wide-field weak lensing surveys are expected to reduce the statistical errors on the shear field to unprecedented levels. In contrast, systematic errors like those induced by the convolution with the point spread function (PSF) will not benefit ...
