Extreme Rainfall Estimation Methods: A Review
The figure illustrates the topics we cover and their inter‐relationships. Extreme value models assign probabilities to rainfall depths, often using regionalisation. They may also allow variation with season, duration, climate epoch or the spatial extent of rainfall. The resulting storm depths can be assigned spatial and/or temporal profiles.

Reliability Analysis of Subsea Oil and Gas Pipelines with Corrosion Defects Under Impact Load
Subsea pipelines are “lifelines” of offshore oil and gas transportation, and their reliability directly affects the safety of underwater oil and gas exploitation. Considering that the in-service subsea oil and gas pipelines are subjected to the corrosion

Bath Vibration During Open Eye Formation in a Physical Model of a Steelmaking Ladle
Using a physical model, this study shows that vibration measurements reliably predict open eye size in steelmaking ladles, offering a practical alternative to visual monitoring. Vessel vibrations stabilize faster than the open eye, except at high frequencies near the bottom.

The use of geometric uncertainty data in aero engine structural analysis and design
A gas turbine disc has three critical regions for which lifing calculations are essential: the assembly holes or weld areas, the hub region, and the blade-disc attachment area.

Bayesian Implementation of the Factor‐Analytic Mixed Model and Application to Embeddings
ABSTRACT Mixed models and neural networks each offer complementary frameworks for prediction. Theoretically grounded in inference, mixed models can unveil latent variance structure notably with the factor‐analytic approach. In this article, we propose to bridge the gap between the two frameworks, leveraging embedding data from a neural network encoder ...

A review of numerical methods for flow and transport modeling in the vadose zone
Abstract Accurate modeling of subsurface flow and transport processes in the vadose zone, governed by the Richards equation and advection‐dispersion equation, respectively, poses major numerical challenges due to the strong nonlinearity of the governing partial differential equations, spatial heterogeneity and anisotropy of the media parameters, and ...

Scalarizing cost-effective multi-objective optimization algorithms made possible with kriging
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is threefold: to make explicitly clear the range of efficient multi-objective optimization algorithms which are available with kriging; to demonstrate a previously uninvestigated algorithm on an electromagnetic design ...
