Conceptual Process Design of an Integrated Xylitol Biorefinery With Value-Added Co-Products

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemical Engineering, 2022
This manuscript describes the conceptual process design of an integrated xylitol biorefinery with value-added co-products. Based on an existing three-step framework, the main product of a second-generation integrated biorefinery is chosen in the first ...

Hubble and Spitzer Space Telescope Observations of the Debris Disk around the Nearby K Dwarf HD 92945 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
[ABRIDGED] We present the first resolved images of the debris disk around the nearby K dwarf HD 92945. Our F606W (V) and F814W (I) HST/ACS coronagraphic images reveal an inclined, axisymmetric disk consisting of an inner ring 2".0-3".0 (43-65 AU) from ...

Intersubjective uncertainty and positioning in a school makerspace

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Education, Volume 115, Issue 2, April 2026.
Abstract Background Uncertainty is ubiquitous in engineering and design, and having students engage with uncertainty can be fruitful for learning. This paper introduces the idea of intersubjective uncertainty and shows that learners in the makerspace routinely leveraged uncertainty to further their own goals.

An Investigation of Gravitational Lensing in the Southern BL Lac PKS 0537-441 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The BL-Lac family of active galaxies possess almost featureless spectra and exhibit rapid variability over their entire spectral range. A number of models have been developed to explain these extreme properties, several of which have invoked the action ...

Person‐Centered Care Planning for Persons With Multiple Chronic Conditions: Summary of an Agency for Health Care Research and Quality Sponsored Summit

open access: yesLearning Health Systems, Volume 10, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Individuals at risk for or living with multiple chronic conditions (MCC) require coordinated care that is often navigated across primary, specialty care, and community environments. Person‐centered care planning (PCCP) is an effective way to manage care for people with MCC needs but is not yet routine practice.

Synteny and phylogenetic analysis of paralogous thyrostimulin beta subunits (GpB5) in vertebrates.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
At some point early in the vertebrate lineage, two whole genome duplication events (1R, 2R) took place that allowed for the diversification and sub-/neo-functionalization of the glycoprotein hormones (GpHs).

Context‐Dependent Effects of Amino Acid Supplementation on Nestling Growth and Baseline Innate Immune Function

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
We experimentally supplemented great tit nestlings with methionine, leucine, or tap water to test how essential amino acids influence growth and immune function in forest and suburban habitats. Supplementation increased mass gain in smaller forest nestlings and enhanced lysis activity with methionine in suburban populations.
