Skew shapes, Ehrhart positivity, and beyond

open access: yesProceedings of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 133, Issue 2, August 2026.
Abstract A classical result by Kreweras (1965) allows one to compute the number of plane partitions of a given skew shape and bounded parts as certain determinants. We prove that these determinants expand as polynomials with nonnegative coefficients.

Neural‐Initialized Newton: Accelerating Nonlinear Finite Elements via Operator Learning

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 127, Issue 14, 30 July 2026.
ABSTRACT We propose a Newton‐based scheme, initialized by neural operator predictions, to accelerate the parametric solution of nonlinear problems in computational solid mechanics. First, a physics‐informed neural operator based on conditional neural fields or Fourier neural operators is trained to approximate the nonlinear parametric solution of the ...

Earth's Infrared Background: A Physics‐Based Null Hypothesis for the Global‐Scale Subannual Variability of Outgoing Longwave Radiation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract Much of the outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) emitted to space can be described as a noisy “background” of random variability. A rigorous characterization of this background provides an objective null spectrum and enables the isolation of atmospheric phenomena within OLR observations, such as waves and storms.
