Automatic Determination of Quasicrystalline Patterns from Microscopy Images

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, Volume 2, Issue 4, August 2026.
This work introduces a user‐friendly machine learning tool to automatically extract and visualize quasicrystalline tiling patterns from atomically resolved microscopy images. It uses feature clustering, nearest‐neighbor analysis, and support vector machines. The method is broadly applicable to various quasicrystalline systems and is released as part of

Characterization of [18F]SMBT‐1 binding substrates in Alzheimer's disease and related disorders: A postmortem biochemical and immunohistochemical study

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Neuroimaging studies report associations of amyloid beta (Aβ) positron emission tomography (PET) with [18F](S)‐(2‐methylpyrid‐5‐yl)‐6‐[(3‐fluoro‐2‐hydroxy)propoxy]quinoline ([18F]SMBT‐1), a novel reactive astrogliosis surrogate radiotracer with high affinity for monoamine oxidase B (MAO‐B) in Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Neurobiological markers across joint profiles of subjective cognitive decline and objective cognitive function in older adults

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Subjective cognitive concerns frequently diverge from objective cognitive performance in cognitively unimpaired (CU) older adults, yet the neurobiological basis of this mismatch remains unclear. METHODS In 648 participants from the Investigating Gains in Neurocognition in an Intervention Trial of Exercise (IGNITE), we defined four

The impact of tropical forests on local climate: Comparing recent research with conservation practitioner information priorities

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 8, Page 2828-2846, August 2026.
Abstract The local‐scale climate impacts of tropical forests (LCIF), such as reducing temperatures and increasing rainfall, are directly relevant to climate change adaptation and mitigation. Strengthening understanding of these local climate benefits can encourage actions to conserve natural forests, with positive implications for climate resilience ...

Monocyte Single‐Cell‐Type Gene Expression Analysis Differentiates Kawasaki Disease From Viral Infection With High Specificity

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 30, Issue 15, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Kawasaki disease (KD) and viral infection (VD) share similar clinical features but require distinct treatments. A practical biomarker to distinguish them is therefore clinically important. Previous blood transcriptome studies identified many differentially expressed genes, but large gene panels are impractical for routine laboratories. A ratio‐
