Modulus of families of walks on graphs

open access: yes, 2017
We introduce the notion of modulus of families of walks on graphs. We show how Beurling's famous criterion for extremality, that was formulated in the continuous case, can be interpreted on graphs as an instance of the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions.

Paying for Health Gains Using Patient Reported Outcome Measures

open access: yesHealth Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Payments to healthcare providers are often based on the number of patients with a particular diagnosis or treatment with well known limitations. Payment based on health outcomes, a form of pay‐for‐performance, has long been advocated as a possible solution.

Stable and Unstable Operations in mod p Cohomology Theories

open access: yes, 2006
We consider operations between two multiplicative, complex orientable cohomology theories. Under suitable hypotheses, we construct a map from unstable to stable operations, left-inverse to the usual map from stable to unstable operations.

Urbanization and Seasonality Increase Introduced Plant Consumption by the World's Southernmost Parrot 城市化与季节性增加了全球最南端鹦鹉对引入植物的取食

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, EarlyView.
Urbanization may alter bird foraging. Austral Parakeets (Enicognathus ferrugineus) in Patagonia rely on introduced plants in urban areas, especially in winter, despite preferring natives in the wild. This seasonal reliance on introduced species highlights urbanization trade‐offs and underscores the need to manage green areas with native plants to ...

Around conjectures of N. Kuhn

open access: yes, 2014
We discuss two extensions of results conjectured by Nick Kuhn about the non-realization of unstable algebras as the mod $p$ singular cohomology of a space, for $p$ a prime.

Experimental Assessment of the Effects of Substrate Choice on the Duration of Chemical Signals in Fecal Scent‐Marks of Free‐Ranging Iberian Wolves

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chemical communication, typically based on feces, urine, and glandular secretions, often deposited as substrate scent marks, plays a key role in social organization and communication among many mammals, especially carnivores. This study assesses experimentally whether the type of substrate chosen for fecal deposition and the temperature ...
