Tyatya Volcano, southwestern Kuril arc: Recent eruptive activity inferred from widespread tephra
Tyatya Volcano, situated in Kunashir Island at the southwestern end of Kuril Islands, is a large composite stratovolcano and one of the most active volcanoes in the Kuril arc. The volcanic edifice can be divided into the old and the young ones, which are

Granitoids in the basement of the Kurile island arc system
Doklady Earth Sciences, 2014The Kurile island arc system consists of three large structural elements: the frontal zone, the Greater Kurile Ridge, and the backrc zone adjacent to the latter on the side of the Sea of Okhotsk in the form of submarine volcanic ridges. The frontal zone includes the Pacific slope of the Kurile arc consisting of the underwater Vityaz Ridge and islands ...

Geochemistry of Thermal Waters of Ketoi Island, Kuril Island Arc
Journal of Volcanology and Seismology, 2018The data obtained during the fieldworks in July 2016 were used for the geochemical description of thermal manifestations of Ketoi and Pallas Peak volcanoes on Ketoi Island in the middle of the Kuril Island arc. It is shown that the older edifice of Ketoi Volcano hosts a high temperature hydrothermal system whose surface manifestations are concentrated ...

Kurile island-arc volcanism: structural and petrological aspects
Tectonophysics, 1991Abstract This study discusses the structural and spatial characteristics of all known Kurile island-arc Quaternary volcanoes, which include 105 that are subaerial and 96 submarine. Volcanic activity in the island arc is distributed in two zones parallel to the Kurile-Kamchatka deep-sea trench. The depth to the seismo-focal zone in the frontal zone is

Mineralogy, geochemistry and petrogenesis of Kurile island-arc basalts
Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 1989Whole-rock (major- and trace-element) and mineral chemical data are presented for basaltic rocks from the main evolutionary stages of the Kurile island arc, NW Pacific. An outer, inactive arc contains a Cretaceous-Lower Tertiary sequence of tholeiitic, calcalkaline and shoshonitic basalts.

Petrochemical variations of island arc andesites (Kurile Island Arc)
Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 1988The problem of comparison of island arc andesites in terms of petrochemical data is examined. It has been proved that in the case of the Kurile Arc, two main factors exist governing the petrochemical variety of andesites. We have made use of original multivariate statistical techniques and computer software to extract these factors.

Geochemistry of late Cenozoic lavas on Kunashir Island, Kurile Arc
Island Arc, 2010AbstractMiddle Miocene to Quaternary lavas on Kunashir Island in the southern zone of the Kurile Arc were examined for major, trace, and Sr–Nd–Pb isotope compositions. The lavas range from basalt through to rhyolite and the mafic lavas show typical oceanic island arc signatures without significant crustal or sub‐continental lithosphere contamination ...
