Feature Map Activation Analysis for Object Key-Point Detection

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
Determining object location information in an image can enable more accurate CNN classification. Several extended CNN models have been developed to include both object location and classification into a unified model, at a cost of increasing compute ...

An Inequality for Kurtosis

open access: yesThe Annals of Mathematical Statistics, 1948
It is well known that, if the fourth moment about the mean of a frequency distribution equals the square of the variance, then the frequencies are piled up at exactly two points, namely, the two points that are one standard deviation away from the mean.

The use of the kurtosis metric in the evaluation of occupational hearing loss in workers in China: Implications for hearing risk assessment

open access: yesNoise and Health, 2012
This study examined: (1) the value of using the statistical metric, kurtosis [β(t)], along with an energy metric to determine the hazard to hearing from high level industrial noise environments, and (2) the accuracy of the International Standard ...

Mastering the Body and Tail Shape of a Distribution

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
The normal distribution and its perturbation have left an immense mark on the statistical literature. Several generalized forms exist to model different skewness, kurtosis, and body shapes.

A Note on Kurtosis

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 1964
Summary This note “rediscovers” the original interpretation of kurtosis as an indicator of “a prominent peak and a prominent tail” on the density curve. A formal proof that such curves have indeed relatively high fourth moments is given. A comment is made concerning the recent decline of this correct classical interpretation.

A Hybrid EMD-Kurtosis Method for Estimating Fetal Heart Rate from Continuous Doppler Signals

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2017
Monitoring of fetal heart rate (FHR) is an important measure of fetal wellbeing during the months of pregnancy. Previous works on estimating FHR variability from Doppler ultrasound (DUS) signal mainly through autocorrelation analysis showed low accuracy ...

EM Algorithm in the Modified Slash Power Maxwell Distribution with an Application

open access: yesAxioms
In this article, we introduce a distribution that is an extension of the Power Maxwell (PM) distribution, which is based on the quotient of two independent random variables. These are the PM and a gamma distribution, respectively. In this way, the result
