Bacterial Quality of Private Water Wells in Clark County, Arkansas [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Most private water wells in Clark County appeared to be contaminated by bacteria, apparently entering the wells from surface water seepage. Eighteen to 24% of the wells investigated were positive for fecal contamination.

Global democratization and international regime complexity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
How can democracy best be pursued and promoted in the existing global system? In this article, I propose a novel suggestion: democratization should occur at the level of international regime complexity.

Algal glycans promote microbial turnover of organic matter through stabilization of subtidal permeable sandy sediments

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Permeable sands on continental shelves host microbial communities that drive organic carbon turnover, oxygen fluxes and nitrogen loss. Advective porewater flow associated with sedimentary bedforms maintains these rates and fluxes. Modeling and laboratory studies suggest that advective porewater flow is tightly coupled to bedform stability ...

Nanocomposite Reduces Volatile and Aqueous Reactive Nitrogen Losses From Soil Compared to Conventional and Alternative Fertilisers

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 5, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Reactive nitrogen losses from agriculture contribute substantially to greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution and ecosystem degradation. Controlled‐release fertiliser technologies offer potential solutions, yet few comprehensively evaluate performance across multiple nitrogen loss pathways and soil types.

Nitrate Availability Modulates the Temperature Sensitivity of N2O and N2 Production From Denitrification

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 3, March 2026.
N2O is a potent greenhouse gas with denitrification in sediments and soils representing a major source, yet its response to warming under varying nitrate conditions remains poorly constrained. Combining meta‐analysis with isotope labelling experiments, we show that under nitrate‐replete conditions, warming increases production of climate‐benign N2 ...

Sphere sovereignty and irreducibility: The ambiguous use of Abraham Kuyper’s ideas during the time of apartheid in South Africa.

open access: yesKoers : Bulletin for Christian Scholarship, 2015
The purpose of this article is to highlight the notion that the concept of sphere sovereignty as postulated by Abraham Kuyper was used in an ambiguous if not invidious manner in the history of South Africa, specifically during the time of apartheid.
