Kwashiorkor in Baltimore

Southern Medical Journal, 1984
Advanced cases of malnutrition are rare in the United States. Since it is rarely suspected, a correct diagnosis of malnutrition, even in extreme form, may easily be missed. We present a recent case of the kwashiorkor form of the syndrome of protein-energy malnutrition to emphasize its diagnostic features and to enhance early recognition and initiation ...

The liver in pre-kwashiorkor and kwashiorkor-marasmus syndromes

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1972
Abstract Available information suggests gradual development of the fatty liver of kwashiorkor due to derangement of fat metabolism. Variations in fatty changes have also been observed in different types of severe protein-calorie malnutrition but no information on the condition of the liver in mild (pre-kwashiorkor) cases is available.
