Harmonic Imaging of Stem Cells in Whole Blood at GHz Pixel Rate

open access: yesSmall, Volume 20, Issue 40, October 3, 2024.
The in‐flow detection of human stem cells in whole, unfiltered blood in a microfluidic channel is demonstrated. The approach relies on the implementation of a multiphoton microscope with diffractive scanning at GHz rates in the direction perpendicular to the flow via a rapidly wavelength‐swept laser. Stem cells are labeled with second‐harmonic emitting

Molecular Biological Methods to Assess Different Botrytis cinerea Strains on Grapes

open access: yesMicrobiology Research
Botrytis cinerea is a well-known pathogen that can be challenging to control in crops, such as wine grapes. To adapt to the increasing problems of climate change and strain resistance, it is important to find new methods to detect Botrytis cinerea and ...

A study on fruit fly host range reveals the low infestation rate of Bactrocera dorsalis (Tephritidae) in Mayotte

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 26, Issue 3, Page 314-326, August 2024.
In Mayotte, we studied fruit fly host range 5–12 years after the invasion of the world's most invasive and polyphagous pests of fruits, Bactrocera dorsalis. Surprisingly, results show low occurrence and infestation rates of B. dorsalis. Only seven host plant species were identified over the 84 collected plant species.

Normalized difference vegetation index analysis reveals increase of biomass production and stability during the conversion from conventional to organic farming

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 30, Issue 8, August 2024.
We used a chronosequence of 36 farms that were converted from conventional to organic management between 0 and 50 years ago. Organic management initially reduced the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), a proxy for green plant biomass, but the difference between conventional and organic farms diminished over time and was eventually reverted ...

Erinnerungskulturen in den Wissenschaften – eine Frage hegemonialer Narrative?

open access: yesBerichte zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte, Volume 47, Issue 1-2, Page 128-150, June 2024.
Abstract Individual and institutional memories tend to form hegemonic narratives that serve to create identity and meaning. If history is written by experts and not by professional historians, historical retrospectives and narratives are usually written by leading figures in a particular field.
