Inexact searches on the L-curve

open access: yesPublicaciones en Ciencias y Tecnología, 2009
In a Tikhonov regularization scheme to solve discrete linear ill-posed problems, selecting the parameter value is a key task. We use Wolfe inexact search on the L-curve to choose a λ regularization parameter value far from critical areas of the L-curve ...

SOLVING THE RATIONAL POLYNOMIAL COEFFICIENTS BASED ON L CURVE [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2018
The rational polynomial coefficients (RPC) model is a generalized sensor model, which can achieve high approximation accuracy. And it is widely used in the field of photogrammetry and remote sensing.

The L-Curve Criterion as a Model Selection Tool in PLS Regression [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Probability and Statistics, 2019
Partial least squares (PLS) regression is an alternative to the ordinary least squares (OLS) regression, used in the presence of multicollinearity. As with any other modelling method, PLS regression requires a reliable model selection tool.

Tuning of conic parameters using Tikhonov regularization and L-Curve simulation

open access: yesDyna, 2019
In this article, a method to infer the parameters of a conic given a set of rectangular coordinates that belong to the geometric entity is shown. The methodology consists of solving a Tikhonov regulation problem where the unregulated term introduces the ...

Application of the L-curve method in determining the quasi-optimal regularization parameter for two-dimensional inversion of magnetotelluric data at the Bishkek geodynamic test site

open access: yesВестник Камчатской региональной ассоциации "Учебно-научный центр". Серия: Науки о Земле, 2021
This paper presents the results of application of the approach, previously not used at the Research Station of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Bishkek, to determine the quasi-optimal value of the regularization parameter for the inversion of the ...

Determination of Smoothing Factor for the Inversion of Co-seismic Slip Distribution [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geodesy and Geoinformation Science, 2020
For the determination of the smoothing factor (also known as the regularization parameter) in the co-seismic slip distribution inversion, the compromise curve between the model roughness and the data fitting residual is generally used to determine (in ...

Simultaneous Selective Thoracic Fusion of Lenke-1C Scoliosis and Reduction of Symptomatic Spondylolisthesis: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Technique, 2021
The combined treatment of unrelated Lenke-1C curves and spondylolisthesis represents a challenge: The two arthrodesis areas must achieve corrections while preserving mobility as much as possible.

Bifurcation curves of positive solutions for the Minkowski-curvature problem with cubic nonlinearity

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2021
In this paper, we study the shape of bifurcation curve $S_{L}$ of positive solutions for the Minkowski-curvature problem \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -\left( \dfrac{u^{\prime }(x)}{\sqrt{1-\left( {u^{\prime }(x)}\right) ^{2}}} \right) ^{\prime ...

A Bayesian interpretation of the L-curve

open access: yesInverse Problems, 2023
Abstract The L-curve is a popular heuristic to tune Tikhonov regularization in linear inverse problems. This paper shows how it naturally arises when the problem is solved from a Bayesian perspective. Specifically, it establishes that the L-curve is a graphical way of searching for the maximum a posteriori solution after marginalization ...

A simplified L-curve method as error estimator [PDF]

open access: yesETNA - Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis, 2020
The L-curve method is a well-known heuristic method for choosing the regularization parameter for ill-posed problems by selecting it according to the maximal curvature of the L-curve. In this article, we propose a simplified version that replaces the curvature essentially by the derivative of the parameterization on the $y$-axis.
