L-H transition in tokamaks and stellarators [PDF]
H-mode theory is extended to include realistic effects such as charge-exchange momentum loss associated with neutral particles, and the magnetic stresses induced by the magnetic islands. Local critical plasma parameters for the on-set of the bifurcation are obtained and can be compared quantatively with experimental measurements.

Simulation of transition dynamics to high confinement in fusion plasmas [PDF]
The transition dynamics from the low (L) to the high (H) confinement mode in magnetically confined plasmas is investigated using a first-principles four-field fluid model.

We generalize the low-gas-puff Heuristic Drift (HD) model of the power scrape-off layer width to take into account both the enhanced parallel confinement time in the SOL at high collisionality, due to enhanced thermal resistivity, and the increase of the

Dyson Hierarchical Long-Ranged Quantum Spin-Glass via real-space renormalization [PDF]
We consider the Dyson hierarchical version of the quantum Spin-Glass with random Gaussian couplings characterized by the power-law decaying variance $\overline{J^2(r)} \propto r^{-2\sigma}$ and a uniform transverse field $h$.

We report a study of time-dependent probability density functions (PDFs) in the low-to-high confinement mode (L-H) transition by extending the previous prey-predator-type model [E. Kim and P. H. Diamond, Phys. Rev. Lett.

I-mode studies at ASDEX Upgrade: L-I and I-H transitions, pedestal and confinement properties [PDF]
The I-mode is a plasma regime obtained when the usual L-H power threshold is high, e.g. with unfavourable ion B ∇ direction. It is characterised by the development of a temperature pedestal while the density remains roughly as in the L-mode ...

STUDY OF L–H TRANSITION AND PEDESTAL WIDTH BASED ON TWO-FIELD BIFURCATION AND FIXED POINT CONCEPTS
The L–H transition in magnetic confinement plasmas is investigated on the basis of concepts of two-field bifurcation and fixed-point stability. A set of heat and particle transport equations with both neoclassical and anomalous effects included is used ...

Discovery of Four High Proper Motion L Dwarfs, Including a 10 pc L Dwarf at the L/T Transition [PDF]
We discover four high proper motion L dwarfs by comparing the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) to the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS). WISE J140533.32+835030.5 is an L dwarf at the L/T transition with a proper motion of 0.85+/-0.02" yr^-1 ...

Transverse and lateral confinement effects on the oscillations of a free cylinder in a viscous flow [PDF]
The different types of instabilities of free cylinders (diameter $D$, length $L$) have been studied in a viscous flow (velocity $U$) between parallel vertical walls of horizontal width $W$ at a distance $H$: the influence of the confinement parameters $D/

Origin and pathogenesis of nodular lymphocyte–predominant Hodgkin lymphoma as revealed by global gene expression analysis [PDF]
The pathogenesis of nodular lymphocyte–predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) and its relationship to other lymphomas are largely unknown. This is partly because of the technical challenge of analyzing its rare neoplastic lymphocytic and histiocytic (L&H ...
