On the Validation of Gyrokinetic L-Mode Simulations

Fusion Science and Technology, 2016
Over the last decade, plasma turbulence simulations based on gyrokinetic theory have reached an amazing degree of physical comprehensiveness and realism.

Influence of the divertor on the L mode confinement in ASDEX

Nuclear Fusion, 1995
Results of confinement studies on an L mode database covering 10 years of operation of ASDEX are presented. During this time, the ASDEX divertor was modified several times. Scaling expressions for closed and open divertor configurations are compared. Strong evidence is found that the confinement time of plasmas in closed divertor configurations scales ...

Fluctuations and associated transport in the L mode in Tore Supra

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1997
A parametric experimental study of fluctuations has been performed in L-mode plasmas during steady-state phases in Tore Supra. Simultaneous measurements of density and magnetic fluctuations in the gradient region of the discharge show that both components are strong functions of the local electron temperature decreasing lengths. The wavenumber spectrum

Phonon dispersion relations of the [00l] L-mode in C36Cs

Synthetic Metals, 1983
Abstract Dispersion relations of [00 l ] L-mode phonons in C 36 Cs were measured by the neutron inelastic scattering technique. The result was analysed by the one-dimensional Born-von Karman model considering the second-neighbor inter-layer force across the cesium layer. The carbon-cerbon force is nearly equal to that in the pristine graphite.

Comparison of SOLPS5.0 and SOLPS‐ITER simulations for ASDEX upgrade L‐mode

Contributions to Plasma Physics, 2020
AbstractThis paper examines the backward compatibility of SOLPS‐ITER with SOLPS5.0 and produces a basic test of the physics/numerics improvements/additions in SOLPS‐ITER recommended by developers, taking an ASDEX Upgrade L‐mode simulation as an example. SOLPS‐ITER, which is emerging as the most advanced tool for edge plasma modelling, can be instructed

Transport Simulation of JT-60U L-Mode Discharges

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1998
To study the confinement characteristics of dimensionally similar discharges (ρ * experiments) in JT-60U L-mode plasmas, transport simulations have been carried out with three different transport models; i.e., the Bohm-type, the Current-Diffusive-Ballooning-Mode and the Multi-Mode models.

What are high l modes, if anything?

2008
Theoretical analyses of the pulsational instability of compact objects indicate that pulsation modes of high spherical harmonic index,l, are expected to be unstable. The amplitudes of the observed, presumably low l,modes with 1>3 will bring them below the observable threshold for ground based photometry.

L-mode SOL width scaling in the MAST spherical tokamak

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 2006
A new data-set of outboard mid-plane scrape-off layer (SOL) heat flux widths, Δh, has been constructed for L-mode plasmas in the MAST spherical tokamak (ST). The scaling with key plasma parameters such as density, toroidal magnetic field, parallel connection length in the SOL and surface heat flux at the separatrix is investigated. An empirical scaling

Observation of the intrinsic rotation in KSTAR Ohmic L-mode plasmas

Nuclear Fusion, 2016
Abstract Two types of experiments were carried out to conduct an intrinsic rotation study in KSTAR. The first was a density ramp-up experiment without neutral beam injection, and the second was an experiment with beam blip technique. In these experiments, some characteristics of the intrinsic rotation were observed in the KSTAR Ohmic L ...

TFTR L mode energy confinement related to deuterium influx

Nuclear Fusion, 1999
Tokamak energy confinement scaling in TFTR L mode and supershot regimes is discussed. The main result is that TFTR L mode plasmas fit the supershot scaling law for energy confinement. In both regimes, plasma transport coefficients increased with increased edge deuterium influx.
