On the Validation of Gyrokinetic L-Mode Simulations
Fusion Science and Technology, 2016Over the last decade, plasma turbulence simulations based on gyrokinetic theory have reached an amazing degree of physical comprehensiveness and realism.

Further rotation reversal studies in C-Mod L-mode plasmas
Physics of Plasmas, 2023Studies of core toroidal rotation reversal phenomenology in C-Mod deuterium L-mode plasmas have been expanded to include details of the dependences on plasma current and toroidal magnetic field. Rotation reversal occurs at a critical density, and universal scaling indicates that the product of ncritq95R ∼ BT/2, with ncrit in 1020/m3, R in m, and BT in ...

Comparison of SOLPS5.0 and SOLPS‐ITER simulations for ASDEX upgrade L‐mode
Contributions to Plasma Physics, 2020AbstractThis paper examines the backward compatibility of SOLPS‐ITER with SOLPS5.0 and produces a basic test of the physics/numerics improvements/additions in SOLPS‐ITER recommended by developers, taking an ASDEX Upgrade L‐mode simulation as an example. SOLPS‐ITER, which is emerging as the most advanced tool for edge plasma modelling, can be instructed

Transport Simulation of JT-60U L-Mode Discharges
Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1998To study the confinement characteristics of dimensionally similar discharges (ρ * experiments) in JT-60U L-mode plasmas, transport simulations have been carried out with three different transport models; i.e., the Bohm-type, the Current-Diffusive-Ballooning-Mode and the Multi-Mode models.

What are high l modes, if anything?
2008Theoretical analyses of the pulsational instability of compact objects indicate that pulsation modes of high spherical harmonic index,l, are expected to be unstable. The amplitudes of the observed, presumably low l,modes with 1>3 will bring them below the observable threshold for ground based photometry.

TFTR L mode energy confinement related to deuterium influx
Nuclear Fusion, 1999Tokamak energy confinement scaling in TFTR L mode and supershot regimes is discussed. The main result is that TFTR L mode plasmas fit the supershot scaling law for energy confinement. In both regimes, plasma transport coefficients increased with increased edge deuterium influx.

Theory of m = l modes in collisionless plasmas
The Physics of Fluids, 1981Modes with azimuthal or poloidal wavenumber m = 1 can appear in the form of internal kinks that are described by the ideal magnetohydrodynamic approximation, or in the form of ’’reconnecting’’ modes that lead to the formation of magnetic islands.

L-mode SOL width scaling in the MAST spherical tokamak
Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 2006A new data-set of outboard mid-plane scrape-off layer (SOL) heat flux widths, Δh, has been constructed for L-mode plasmas in the MAST spherical tokamak (ST). The scaling with key plasma parameters such as density, toroidal magnetic field, parallel connection length in the SOL and surface heat flux at the separatrix is investigated. An empirical scaling

Can Gyrokinetics Really Describe Transport in L-Mode Core
2014Corresponding Author: F. Jenko, fsj@ipp.mpg.de The common view in fusion theory is that nonlinear gyrokinetics constitutes a reliable firstprinciples approach to describe turbulent transport in MCF devices. Surprisingly, however, two recent findings challenged this notion.
