L-moments under nuisance regression

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2016
The L-moments are analogues of the conventional moments and have similar interpretations. They are calculated using linear combinations of the expectation of ordered data. In practice, L-moments must usually be estimated from a random sample drawn from an unknown distribution as a linear combination of ordered statistics.

Gaussian Centered L-moments

open access: yes, 2017
As various types of media currently generate so-called big data, data visualization faces the challenge of selecting a few representative variables that best summarize important structure inherent in data. The conventional moments-based summary statistics can be useful for the purpose of variable screening.

Gamma Mixture: Bimodality, Inflexions and L-Moments

Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 2008
We study some characteristics of the mixture of two gamma distributions. Specifically, we characterize regions of the parameter space where the mixture density is bimodal and/or has four inflexion points and further, we provide formulae for the L-moments of such mixtures.
