Insulinotropic action of L-rhamnose in isolated rat islets

L-Rhamnose at different concentrations stimulated incorporation of 3H-leucine both into islet (pro)insulin and that released into the medium. Maximum isotope incorporation with either glucose or rhamnose was seen at a concentration of 16.7 mM, although the glucose-induced effect was significantly greater.

Abstract It has been reported that an enzyme preparation from mung bean leaves (Phaseolus aureus) catalyzes the transfer of L-rhamnose from thymidine diphosphate (dTDP) L-rhamnose to 3-quercetin β-D-glucoside to form rutin (3-quercetin O-α-L-rhamnosyl-(1 → 6)-β-D-glucoside) ( Barber and Neufeld, 1961 ; Barber, 1962 ).

Cloning and characterization of the l-rhamnose regulon in Salmonella typhimurium LT2

A Salmonella typhimurium LT2 cosmid library was constructed, and a 46-kb recombinant plasmid was isolated that could complement an Escherichia coli rha mutant. Subsequent subcloning generated a 13.6-kb ClaI restriction fragment that contained a functional regulatory element.
