Despite of the fact that the complexity theory forms a significant and rapidly growing part of theoretical computer science the study of complexity of L-systems is in its beginnings. In the following three etudes we wish to sketch out some possible directions of such investigations.

Modeling Plant Development with L-Systems
2018Since their inception in 1968, L-systems have become a key conceptual, mathematical and software tool for modeling plant development at different levels of plant organization spanning molecular genetics, plant physiology, whole plant architecture and plant communities. The models can be descriptive, directly recapitulating observations and measurements

A brief description of the PROTOS-L system
2005The PROTOS-L system is an outcome of a research effort within the EUREKA Project PROTOS (Logic Programming Tools for Building Expert Systems, EU 56) aimed at overcoming some of the shortcomings of Prolog. It consists of a logic programming language including various advanced features together with a state-of-the-art implementation approach based on an ...

The problem confronting any contemporary artist wishing to use technology is in the relationship between algorithmic and creative processes. This relationship is traditionally a conflicting one, with the artist trying to bend and adapt to the rigour and exactness of the computational process, while aspiring for an unbounded freedom of expression ...

L systems and categories of automata
J. Inf. Process. Cybern., 1985The author proves that the Arbib-Manes approach to categorical automata theory [\textit{M. A. Arbib} and \textit{E. G. Manes}, SIAM Rev. 16, 163-192 (1974; Zbl 0288.18005), Bull. Aust. Math. Soc. 13, 169-210 (1975; Zbl 0318.18008)] also covers TOL and ETOL systems, as well as stochastic and fuzzy L-systems.
