Trend of North African Dust Storms and Potential Link to Climate Change

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 3, 16 February 2026.
Abstract Over recent decades, North African dust storms have undergone marked variability, reflecting complex interactions between regional climate processes and environmental change. Using four decades (1984–2023) of visibility‐based observational records, we examine regional and seasonal trends in dust storm frequency across the Sahel and the Sahara,

Sediment‐stressed reefs over the past 420 Myr

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
In order to fully elucidate the relationship between siliciclastic sedimentation and reef development, there needs to be a significant step change in how we record ancient and recent reefs. Only through the collection of constrained quantitative data, we can progress beyond the largely conjectural associations postulated for many ancient reefal systems.

Plant‐Pollinator Interactions in Grasslands Established on Arable Land

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We compared plant‐pollinator networks in newly established and old, permanent grasslands in a Central European agricultural landscape. Newly established grasslands showed higher pollinator visitation frequency and diversity per plant species, especially for solitary bees and syrphids, with a comparable network structure to old grasslands.

Space Use and Movements During Egg Laying Associated With Nest Fate and Female Survival in Eastern Wild Turkeys

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We assessed behaviors of female wild turkeys during the laying period and evaluated impacts of those behaviors on nest success and female survival. We found that increased movements during laying resulted in a decreased probability of nest success but an increased probability of female survival during incubation.

Stochasticity Prevails but Differs: Tissue‐Specific Assembly of Gut Microbiomes Across Seasons in an Amphibian Model

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Amphibian gut microbiomes exhibit a temporal‐decay pattern in abundance‐unweighted intercommunity indices rather than abundance‐weighted indices. Stochastic processes play a dominant role in the gut microbiome assembly. Deterministic processes contribute more to large‐intestine microbiomes than to small‐intestine microbiomes.
