The Concepcion de la Vega archaeological site is found in the central Cibao Valley of the Dominican Republic. It was occupied from approximately 1495, when Columbus established a fort with that name in the area, until 1564, when its last remaining inhabitants moved to the shores of the Camu River after a devastating earthquake in December 1562.
