Analysis of the fraction of clear sky at the La Palma and Mt Graham sites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The fraction of available telescope time is one of the most important requirements for selecting astronomical sites affecting the performance of ground based telescopes. A quantitative survey of clouds coverage at La Palma and Mt.Graham is presented using both ground and satellite based data.

Mixed‐Dimensional 0D‐DNA‐2D Heterostructures Beyond van der Waals: A DNA‐Templated Strategy for Optoelectronic Tunability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐step DNA metallization process is presented for the modular assembly of metal sulfide nanoparticles (NPs) on MoS2, with nanoscale control over their separation and ability to concomitantly assemble different kind of NPs. This allowed to tailor the photoinduced electrical response of phototransistors to different wavelengths, according to the ...

Comparative analysis of the impact of geological activity on astronomical sites of the Canary Islands, Hawaii and Chile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
An analysis of the impact of seismic and volcanic activity was carried out at selected astronomical sites, namely the observatories of El Teide (Tenerife, Canary Islands), Roque de los Muchachos (La Palma, Canary Islands), Mauna Kea (Hawaii) and Paranal (Chile) and the candidate site of Cerro Ventarrones (Chile).

The La Palma Data Archive [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1989
The Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos is perched atop a volcanic caldera on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands, 400 km off the coast of North Africa. Three of the telescopes at the observatory are products of a collaboration between the UK, the Netherlands, Spain and the Republic of Ireland. They are the 1.0-m Jacobus Kapteyn Telescope,

Modulating Signal Generation in Aptamer‐Based CNT‐FET Biosensors by Controlling the Functionalization Route

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, EarlyView.
The impact of different assembly strategies is discussed on the performance of nanoscale aptamer‐based SWCNT‐FET biosensors. By combining electrical and optical characterization, this is revealed that how aptamer conformation affects local electrostatic changes within the Debye length, leading to distinct sensor responses.
