Influence of biochar and vermicompost on labile and stable carbon pools in degraded jhum soils of northeast India

open access: yesDiscover Soil
Degraded jhum (shifting cultivation) soils are characterized by rapid losses of soil organic carbon (SOC), yet limited information is available on how organic amendments regulate SOC fractions and carbon stability.

Revolutionising Agricultural Sustainability: New ‘Furrow Tillage’ can Mitigate Short‐Term Soil‐to‐Atmosphere CO2 Flux and Promote Soil‐Plant‐Microbe Health

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Furrow tillage resolves the conventional‐vs.‐no‐tillage trade‐off by simultaneously cutting CO2 efflux to 2.0–3.0 g C m−2 d−1 and unlocking high nutrient availability for the rice rhizosphere. This scalable agronomic solution strengthens soil health, enhances plant physiology, reshapes microbial metabolism, and shifts paddy systems toward a net ...

Labile soil organic carbon relationship with the microbial soil properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The purpose of this study was to explain relationship of labile soil organic carbon and microbiological properties of chernozem soil. Soil samples from plow layer of different winter wheat based cropping systems and native sod were analysed. Higher content of labile soil organic carbon was found on the native sod compared with the agricultural ...

Soil respiration activity and thermal stability of organic matter under the post-agricultural evolution of Haplic Luvisol

open access: yesБюллетень Почвенного института им. В.В. Докучаева
The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of post-agricultural soil development on the respiratory activity and thermal stability of accumulated organic matter.

Greenland Ice Sheet exports labile organic carbon to the Arctic oceans [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2013
Abstract. Runoff from small glacier systems contains dissolved organic carbon (DOC), rich in protein-like, low molecular weight (LMW) compounds, designating glaciers as an important source of bioavailable carbon for downstream heterotrophic activity. Fluxes of DOC and particulate organic carbon (POC) exported from large Greenland catchments, however ...

Ion Superhighways in a Hierarchical Polymer‐Ceramic Membrane Enable Rapid and Selective Lithium Extraction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A flexible PDMS‐LATP polymer‐ceramic membrane creates lithium‐ion “superhighways” for rapid and selective extraction from complex brines. The amorphous PDMS matrix suppresses nonselective leakage and stabilizes the ceramic network, while LATP provides preferential Li+ conduction.

Parameters of labile organic carbon as the indicators of the stability of soil organic matter under different land use

open access: yes
The labile fractions of organic carbon (OC), which are a reflection of the properties of soil and its use, appear to be suitable parameters for their use as indicators.

Harmonizing Rigidity and Flexibility: Embedding COF Quantum Dots Into Extracellular Matrix Gel as Carbon Monoxide Depot for Acoustically Triggered Time‐Programmable Anti‐Infective Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A rigid‑flexible integrated CO depot is engineered by embedding rigid COFQDs into a flexible ECM gel network. The rigid framework enables high‑capacity CO storage and sonodynamic bacterial killing, while the flexible ECM gel controls sustained CO release, collectively eradicating multidrug‑resistant infection and promoting scarless healing.

Convection injects labile particulate organic carbon to the deep ocean

open access: yesScience Advances
Vertical export of particulate organic carbon (POC) is central to the oceanic carbon cycle, yet the role of physical injection processes and their interannual variability remain poorly constrained. Autonomous profilers drifting in the Labrador and Irminger Seas detect recurrent winter-spring chlorophyll-a fluorescence peaks at 1000 m, indicating deep ...
